Greetings, Peter, Sara, Roger, Michael and everyone else reading along.
Peter, I read your message with a feeling of sadness. For so
many years I have been reading your postings to YL with interest.
It just won't be the same when they no longer appear. I know you
have been looking forward to the time when you could sell your
house and find a home in Brazil. Then you won't have to be apart
from Maria during the winter months. Like, Sara, I hope you find
just the right buyer soon and can get everything settled with as
little hassle as possible.
Yes, Sara, cooler temperatures finally came to the Ozarks about five
days ago. It was 55 degrees Fahrenheit when we woke up this
morning. At noontime it is 75. And, we did get rain on Wednesday
and Thursday. Folks about forty miles north of us got more rain
than they could use--eight to ten inches one day and more the
next day. Some houses were flooded, many roads closed, and a
number of water rescues were necessary. But, on our hill we
got almost four inches total and that was good.
This morning I sat on our back deck for a while just enjoying
a cool breeze, watching the leaves gently rustling in the many
trees behind our house, listening to the birds announcing their
presence and calling to each other, and observing the squirrels
as they jumped from tree to tree in search of whatever is their
interest. During that brief time away from the TV and internet
news, I could believe that "God is in His heaven and all is
right with the world." I know God is in His heaven, but the
condition of the world is in question.
A salad garden sounds good to me, Sara. Our produce stands around
are beginning to go through a change. Summer vegetables are giving
way to fall vegetables and fruits. Tomatoes are still available,
but they are smaller and have the look of "end of the season." There
are still some good peaches for sale but the signs for apples are
beginning to appear. And, as ours is a tourist town, businesses are
already beginning to decorate with fall leaves and pumpkins. The Fall
and Christmas seasons are our most popular for visitors.
Roger, we haven't had a packet message from you yet today. I hope
all is well in Austin, Minnesota.
Michael, K.O. told me yesterday when he read about the earthquake that
hit Christchurch, NZ, to ask you about it and how things are in your
area. I don't know if the North Island felt any effects or not. I looked
at the pictures on the internet a few minutes ago of the damage around
Christchurch, Darfield, New Brighton, Sydenham and some other locations.
Also, Michael, we are wondering how the job hunt has turned out. Hope
you have been able to find something to your liking. Have your trees
begun to blossom yet? Our leaves are falling and there is quite a bit
of yellow showing on the hills.
I'm sure whoever is still reading is weary by now; so, until a later
date, bless you all with only good things.
73, Billie
