10m as it comes out of the box, but as licensed radio amateurs we are
allowed to modify this equipment and extend its range immensly providing
we only trnasmit within our amateur bands. Much of the band width used
by these devices is in the amateur band and setting them to use these
only is easy. My own WLAN is set to operate on our part of this band.

Yes you can make changes. You can add a wide variety of antennas, you
can increase the output power, you can increase the receivers
sensitivity, you can engineer long distance links.

Anyone operating on packet, is already using a communications facility.
To adapt the technology we do certainly need the use of our amateur
licence.
