Hi Dick and readers,

Just to clarify a bit you and some others seem a bit hazy on, WLAN stands
for Wireless Local Area Network. Most commonly a LAN is an intra office
network, simply a means of hooking a bunch of PCs together or terminals
to a host computer. Now they've gone wireless and the technology become
available to the home user. OK, that's just an overview, let's not have
any of the usual nit picking you guys. (;->)

It matters not what frequency it operates on or the bandwidth, WLAN was
and is still the most widely used method of connecting packeteers
together. Right now this message is being sent on the Northeast LAN,
(NEBBS) and everybody in the northeast US will see it. Oh, did I mention
that since it's addressed to WW it will be sent by radio to the worldwide
radio network, or what may loosely be called the radio WAN? Yeah, that's
the Wide Area Network, or in this case WWAN. Hmmmm, somewhere along the
line a LLL will pick it up and stuff it into his telephone connection and
send it over the Internet so you who find yourselves slaves to non
Amateur third party carriers can read it, but that's another can of worms.

Now there you have it, WLAN has been around for a LONG time but I'll bet
you didn't know that. (;->) Anyway, good to see that there are some out
there finally using our microwave bands for something more than mountain
topping.

Oh darn, maybe I shouldn't have mentioned mountains, I've already seen
rubbish from the whiners using that as an excuse to remain bound to the
Internet and now I have probably invited more spam. (;->)
