Hello Wi-Fiers, and the rest!

The subject of 2.4GHz WiFi, and extensions, raised by Mark, VK3JMA, seems
to have hit a button with several ground based packeteers, and a few, also,
who are Hi-Flyers. Right on-the-button, Mark!

In Australian magazines, ( Amateur Radio, our National Ham magazine, and our
only remaining general electronics magazine, Silicon Chip), projects and
information about 2.4GHz modules and antennas that can be adapted by
'amateurs' for experimental short range contacts, have been appearing for
some time.

Call them LANs, WiFi, point-to-point radio, or whatever, setting up what
can become a 'broadband' data communications link from one hobbiest to
another, is from my point of view an excellent way to further interest in
Ham radio, and gain valuable experience in 'an introduction to microwaves'.

Read, or re-read, the wise comments from the 'oracle', Harry, M1BYT, and try
to see his "massive technical challenge" that I'm sure exists in further
experimenting on the 'lower microwaves'. With continuing 'nibbles' being
taken from our VHF and UHF bands, we may all need the training that simple
ready-made, and technically excellent, modules can provide. I am struggling
to get good performance from my home made 2.4GHz satellite radio, and the
commercial development of modern transmitters and receivers, makes me wonder
if I am on the right wavelength, so to speak!

Mark is to be congratulated in his usual enthusiasm for new developments in
Ham radio. There is no harm in giving it a go; we all get a kick out of one
thing or another, and it's natural to look for something 'over the fence'!

I hope this will be of interest.

73. Dick. VK3ABK.
