So how are you going to modify the protocol on those ethernet cards to include
amateur call signs, to limit their frequency excursions to only the ham band,
and to prevent the use of your amateur radio lan by all users of wireless lan
cards? A critical difference between X.25 and AX.25 is that the address field
in AX.25 is much longer and variable in length to allow for variable length
call signs and the inclusion of digipeaters.
Seems to me that if the address field is left unchanged, that you are not
using the wireless lan within amateur rules, but by adding the antennas, often
not allowed under the unlicensed wireless lan rules, you are breaking the
rules the lan hardware was built under. I suspect the format of the data
fields is set completely in hard coded on board firmware so that changes are
impractical, hence your proposed use is in violation of the unlicensed lan
rules and doesn't come under amateur radio rules.
