You are on the right track. Best thing to do is to ask around for like
My questions ares:
1- I have the HUB here, and wanted to install it up high on
my 100' tower. The hub has to antennas on it. I was told this was to minimize
problems with echos caused by multipath reception. If this is so, can I put
TWO (2) dishs up on my tower pointing in different directions, to allow users
on two different headings to get yet AND retain the benefits of the gain
antenna??
If this isn't a good idea, area there any gain type vertically polarized
antennas about that I should use up on the tower??
2- I've worked with the wireless LANs quite a bit locally, and have my
entire business (www.Scootworks.com) set up and operating in this way...all
computers around the 3100' shop are wireless, using WEP encription, and
working well (they do cause a bit of a problems for my 2.4 ghz wireless
phone system, though, heheheeh).
All of my cards install directly into the computer...Are there cards that
will work remotely, or are the "access points" that some discuss here,
actually the "HUB" unit that I was referring to?
3- What are the greatest distances that some of you have worked using these
60mw units with a high-gain antenna? I have another amateur that lives
about 10 miles from me, and he also has a high tower (he has 140' tower,
I have 100" tower)...we have LOS path, I can see his tower on a clear day from
the top of mine with binoculars). We were curious about working this distance
via these 10 GHZ units and dish-type antennas.
