After reading your note, I can say that you have fallen for the microsoft
trap, like so many others. The Vista system has been completely redesigned
by MS and a lot of additional 'things' like Aero, UAC and SideBar that one
really requires a lot better machine now to run Vista.

Your comment about the number of files scanned by AVG bears out this
situation, so the only way to get a good ar perhaps a better performance for
Vista is to get a Quad or min DUAL Processor machine!

Wonder if you know that you can opt for XP to be loaded onto the laptop by
the seller? this happened recently due to all the comments like yours
flying about.

Ref ytour test with VG it is not really the best way to compare a machine, as
the files don't match, what one neees to do is run a benchmark program on
both and compare the differences then, once you have decided that Vista is
slower ( not due to number of files it has) then one can turn off the Aero
and additional features of Vista and compare again, I think after turning off
these 'gadgets' you will find an improvement, but albeit fairly small.

My suggestion then is to get your old PC's CD and reload everything on the
new one and abandon Vista, but before you do that, visit the manufactures web
site and download ALL the drivers for your machine!!!

Good luck.
