Still the 144 mHz band remains the centre of interest here.

26/11/07: Perth amateurs worked Adelaide on 144.1 - a rare occurrence
where the ducted signal has to cross a long path over land. (Albany to
Adelaide and Melbourne is mainly across water.) The propagation at present
is almost certainly tropo. I have not detected any sign of sporadic E
propagation so far this season, though of course seeing Perth is 400 km
north of here such could occur without it affecting me down south.

My log:
24/11/07	144 mHz 2300 to 2330
VK5NY (59+), VK3AXH, VK3NX, VK3XPB, VK3AAK, VK5NY still there at 2330
WAST.
The band seems to have been open all day but I have not been around. Sport
all afternoon and a concert at night.

25/11/07 0719 WAST VK3VG, VK5NY, VK5DK

28/11/07 VK5AKK, VK5BC, VK5RSE beacon audible at good strength (Mt
Gambier - distance 3105 km)

29/11/07 0735 WAST VK5AKK, at 0826 VK5NY (very weak)

I am the only amateur active on VHF in the Albany region at present.
Veteran VK6WG had some elements fall off his 2 metre antenna and is having
his comprehensive array of antennae which includes not only yagis but
dishes for UHF and higher. Wally is approaching 97 years of age but is
still alert and active. He has held world records for UHF working with
contacts up to 10 gHz.

Bob VK6BE.
