Band open again in an extensive troppo opening across the Great Australian
Bight. Distances between 2670km and 3500km.
2025 to 2232 WAST 144 mHz
VK3AXH, VK5NY, VK3BDL, VK3AAK, VK5ZBK, VK3AIG, VK5BC, VK3KAQ, VK3II,
VK3XPD, VK5 ZK, VK3XPD, VK3HY, VK5DK, VK5DK (432mHz), VK3AFW, VK3NX,
VK3KAI, VK3DMW, VK5HDW, VK3WN, VK3AAK, VK3WRE, VK3TPR.

0843 WAST TO VK5NY (59++), VK3AXH, VK3NX, VK3XPB, VK3AAK, I was absent
from 1200 playing lawn bowls, came home and went to a concert. Home at
2300 and found band still wide open. Worked VK3AAK, VK5NY, knocked off at
midnight with Roger VK5NY still booming through.

0719 and 0722: VK3VG, VK5NY worked at good strength, then had to leave for
church and then out all afternoon so have no idea how long the band stayed
open. At 1700 WAST I can hear nothing on two. 30 contacts all DX this last
two days. Who says noone is on amateur radio. These contacts were all
transcontinental with some well over 59.
The beacon on 432 50 km north of me is at an elevation of 1500 feet plus
190 feet for the tower. It was running into Adelaide and Melbourne for
most of the opening. VK6WG is sorting out is antennas which came to grief
so I have no idea as to whether the opening went to 23 cm. 10 gHz has ben
worked from here to Adelaide so there is no coubt we are in a favoured
position for VHF, UHF DX.
