In addition to Steve's excellent notes, the other thing I do is only one of my running instances connects to an Internet server (eg. rotate2.aprs.net:14580) and I have "enable local server" checked on that instance.
Then, all the other instances point to *that* instance (localhost:1488), so I only have one actual connection across the internet, and that data is shared between (in my case) four other running instances.
The only downside is that you can only have one 'Filter' setup, since UI-View's built-in server doesn't process Filter commands itself.

N5AS-9 appears to be a TT3 configured for MIC-E. There does indeed
appear to be a "N5AS" digipeater. Would your TNC happen to be configured
as a digipeater? Just do a hard reset on it. Afterwards, enter your
callsign, INT TERM, HID OFF, CW E 0 and you should be done. Have UI-View
run the TNC in KISS mode. Keep in mind that if it's a KPC3+, a known
problem is that it will introduce delays after a week or two. You could
have UI-View restart once a day to prevent it. Kantronics has been made
aware of the problem. Time will tell if they are willing to provide
freebie update to fix the problem.

It's strange that you don't appear to have gated any of the position
reports from N5AS-9 even though you digi'd a number of them.

I am tryihg to send weather beacons on 2 meters with UI-view but they don't seem to be getting to CWOP. My normal ID beacons show up on the APRS server but not WX beacons. I am using the FreeWX-Wi software package to talk to my Oregon Scientific WMR-968 WX station. I do have I
UI-View configured to read the FreewxUI.txt file. Not even WX uploads to the internet from UI-View work. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You started off beaconing position reports on RF with UI-View, but...

then some time later "another" WC5M fired up sending WX reports. It
wasn't generated by UI-View. Whatever was creating it had a validated
TCPIP connection. Even if you solve the (apparent) problem of UI-View
not beaconing the WX reports, you don't want to have the other software
package beaconing with the same callsign-SSID at the same time.

Mark,

Why don't you use WeatherDisplay. There's a free copy on our web page.
Have you registered with CWOP ?

Re: weather beacons Posted by: "wc5m" wc5m(AT)arrl.net wc5m Date: Thu Oct 1, 2009 9:26 pm ((PDT)) I am relatively new to APRS. I guess I don't know how to tell if a particular packet was sent via radio or via internet. I want to configure UI-View to sent WX beacons via Radio only. What are the proper settings for Station setup and WX Station setup? I set it up (I thought) to send WX beacons by radio only but never saw any updates to my weather page on FindU.com. When I switched off the WX beacons and turned on the station beacons I could see those on the Findu page for my local digi but never any WX packets (obviously I missed at least one). Internet APRS updates also work from the FreeWX software, but my internet connection is currently unreliable so I would like to use radio only. Sorry for the confusion. !4916.51N/12257.36W_180/000g...t052P036h96b10098T2WX

The above example was sent on RF. Although I usually see that station
on RF, the above example got to me via the Internet. I can tell that
because it shows the IGate callsign after the q Construct qAR.
www.aprs-is.net/q.aspx The data was copied from UI-View and pasted into
this message.

That was a later beacon as viewed at aprs.fi. The APOT2A (the
destination) tells us it was one of the OpenTracker series, in this
case, an OT2m. The WIDE2-1 is the path. However, whether it was
digipeated or not, it made it direct too the IGate VE7BFC. The rest is
the payload... the lat / long and the actual WX data.

The TCPIP indicates that it was heard "via the Internet". You had a
validated connection to the APRS server FIRST.

> > I want to configure UI-View to sent WX beacons via Radio only. What
> > are the proper settings for Station setup and WX Station setup?

Start by going to the WX station setup. Enter a different callsign-SSID
than you have in the station setup... e.g. WC5M-1. Enter port 1 (one) so
it will go out on RF. Set the radio beacon interval. If the APRS
frequency is very busy where you are located, consider backing off the
beacon rate a bit. Some recommend every 5 mins. Some suggest more like
every 10-15 minutes. If you have a TCPIP connection as well, you could
enter 10 mins (a non-zero value) for the "Internet" beacon rate. Set the
max age to e.g. 20 mins. Enter the unproto address... e.g. APRS,WIDE2-1.
If you have read the UI-View help, you will be aware that the "APRS" is
really the destination and (if it's UI-View32 v 2.03) to APU25N. The
WIDE2-1 is the actual path. Then tell it where the text file containing
the WX data is located. Tell it to add the UI-View tag and "OK" your way
out from there.

Not working? Confirm that the text file is being created. Compare it to
the example of the data format in the UI-View help. Check your "max age"
setting. Just for a quick test, you could tell it to beacon every
minute. Watch the terminal window for evidence of the beacon. Also watch
your TNC and the radio for evidence that it's transmitting. Then set the
beacon rate back to a reasonable setting.

> > I set it up (I thought) to send WX beacons by radio only but never saw

Was it actually transmitting? I suggested a one hop WIDE2-1 above.
Looking at http://aprs.fi/?c=raw&call=WC5M&limit=1000 I could see that
when you were on RF, you were making it to an IGate with just one hop.
If you really need to be heard further away on RF, make it a two hop
WIDE2-2.

I don't know what you mean by "for my local digi". See my comments
above. Something needs to create the text file containing the correctly
formatted WX data, and you need to tell UI-View where it is.

The [DIGI_OPTIONS] section won't be there if you have never had the digi
enabled.

I don't understand the reference to the TT3+. I also don't understand
your comment about digipeating a mobile station if you don't have the
digipeater enabled.

Looking back at your original post, you said...

Do you see RF traffic in the terminal window?

Is the IGate configured properly? What do you see in the "show IGate
traffic" window? You should be gating what you hear to the APRS-IS, but
you will only be gating to RF if someone sends a message to a local
station, or unless there is anything specific that you set up to gate to
RF.

PROBLEM CORRECTED!

Before I completely removed and re-installed UI-View32, I would only digi a mobile (including my TT3+, determined to be OK) or another digi and not Igate it. Apparently something went south with the UI-View installation even though everything seemed correct. All is fine now after the re-install.

Thanks to everyone who offered help on this issue. 73's, Tom
