    Posted by: "WA5AM" ars.w5ami(AT)gmail.com w5ami

Hello,

I am new here, and pretty new to APRS, but having lots of fun so far. I
have set up a Digi/IGate with UI-View32, it seems to be doing very good
thanks to help from some others on making sure I didn't hog the frequency,
etc.

Only thing I am having trouble with is getting my WX file to send. I have
the Internet version of the Virtual WX software and do have the program
creating a file every minute, wxreport.txt. I have the setup in UI-View set
to send every 15 minutes, but nothng is ever sent as far as I can tell.
Under WX setup I have the unproto port set to 1 and the path to APRS,WIDE.
The correct file is selected "wxreport.txt" under WX Data File, with the
path directly to the proper folder. I have verified the format is correct
as well. Here is a current sample of my wxreport.txt:

Sep 25 2009 16:10
327/000g004t076r000P000p004h34b10216

Is there something I am missing to get this sent?

Thanks in Advance.

Brian / wa5am

Having fun is the most important part! Did you edit uiview32.ini to
update the [DIGI_OPTIONS] section to bring it up-to-date.

UIFLOOD=AR <<< use the 2 letter abbreviation for your state
UITRACE=WIDE

This will allow you to support a traceable WIDEn-N on the digi side of
things, and SSn-N for "state" flooding of traffic when needed. You could
also change your symbol to a "numbered digi" with an S overlay reflect
that

WIDE has been obsolete in North America for about 5 years now, along
with TRACE, TRACEn-N and the evil RELAY which has been replaced with
WIDE1-1. A path of WIDE2-1 would be more appropriate. The "APRS" needs
to stay as it is the destination... translated to APU25N by UI-View. You
would enter APRS,WIDE2-1 in the unproto section.

I wonder if the date/time in your text file is in UTC? There is a "max
age" setting in the WX station setup. I'm not sure what would happen if
the time was in the future with UI-View looking at the PC time. Try
temporarily modifying the max age entry by changing it to 360 mins, or
just not entering anything. If it is a "max age" thing, you could look
at the program that is creating the file and see if you can change the
time format to local. Then you could set max age back to 30 minutes and
never send information that was more than half an hour old if the text
file stopped being generated.

Keith,

Thanks a million! That did it. Sorry to say I don't know which suggestion cured the problem, as I went ahead and made all the changes you suggested. I bet the time was the main culprit. It was set to write UTC instead of local time, which I can see where that would confuse things.

Thanks again & 73!

Does this require joining a Games portal?

Version 0.2 of my UI-PHG-DFS program is available for downloading.

It draws PHG and RNG circles. For direction finding it handles DFS and
BRG/NRQ codes to draw DFS circles and BRG bearings on the UI-View map.

The zip file contains Windows installation files. Unzip them to a spare
directory. Double click file setup.exe to start the Windows installation
process. Download the zip file from:-

http://www.filefront.com/14592023/UI-PHG-DFS-V02.zip/

No. You don't have to join anything. Just click the download button.

It does seem strange, through, to host this APRS/UIview-related file on
a gaming-related website. Perhaps it could be placed in the files area
of the UIview Yahoo group instead.

Just above the white field with the link URL there is a click button
about 2" wide named Download.

Would Richard or someone else please post that in the File area of this
Group?

I enabled one of the six scripts associated with that page, strangely
the one for filefront.com however the d/l still wasn't going to start.
Not going to spend time on checking the other scripts before running them.

Thanks.

Oh, the one that says Download Now, white in a Gold box that links to
another page with a strange identifier. Got it... No problem. Was afraid it
was a trap door to one of those 'you iz now enrolled' forms. Sorry..... :-(

Yes, the icon to click is the yellow or gold rectangle with the words "Download Now".

I placed the zip file on that website as I write Doom (Skulltag) games and run 4 games servers. I can also check the level of interest in my programs by seeing how many times the file has been downloaded.

I don't think the number of downloads are indicated in the files areas on this site, but agree it would seem a more appropriate place to put it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I welcome feedback on the program - ideas for improvement or additions.  I considered adding the RDF fade circle facility.  I can do it by drawing on bits of paper and using a calculator with simple geometry, but trying to work out the code to do it made my brain ache.
I wouldn't rule out it being related to Vista, but have you looked at
SETUP - TOOLTIP TEXT SETUP? If the tooltips are disabled there,
they won't appear.
I assume that they still aren't working for you. Are you running UI-View
as admin? Does toggling rectangle / balloon make any difference, or
changing the "show for X secs" or the "always tip" setting? Also, are
there any Vista users that can confirm that tooltips work OK for them?
I got UI-View 32 working with AGWPE (used to use a PK-232) but only see direct signals even though findU shows a number of other stations that should show up. All looks ok on the tunning tool and sound ok. Must be some parameter I have wrong.
