Hi Ian,
I was a regular TPK user until I got 95'd so I could use Winpack with
AGW, with a Baycom modem.
Previously I had tried to get Winpack (v 6.40) running under Windows
3.11/DOS 6.2/BPQ, but was not entirely successful ('twas on a dx4/100 with
32 meg ram & a i.2 gig HDD) . For some reason I could read traffic, and
connect to the BBS manually, but it wouldn't run on AutoBBS, or even
syunc. It was not until I hit '95/AGW that things did work as I thought.
I would run the TPK in DOS till does work, if I resytart in MS-DOS
mode, as that was the option I had to take when a flutter with Sally
nearly deastroyed my love affair with packet - had to restart from a
reformatted HDD!) I have resorted to TPK when the 95/winpack refused to
co-operate, as happened recently. I have NOT had TPK spit the dummy on me
at any time previously. In fact, I had it working the way always it did,
even after te BBS was upgraded to FBB7.00.
Never came across the makelist utility, sorry. One that I DID have was
one called RUBRIK. This little pearler was good for organising files after
downloading
Basically, any message that you wanted deleted you selected <alt><K>, and
it was history. RUBRIK gave the option to have a list of other "folders"
that you could ill" the message to. I had about 7, such as SALE,
MSG_PRIV, MAIL, LINUX, WINPACK, BULLS, FILES etc.
Any that I wanted to save were "transferred to these folders. <ALT><L>
would bring up these lists. It was much tidier, IMHO,than the method
employed in Winpack, although the WinpMail extra for Winpack does make it
easier to find files. I did have a few correspondences with Roger about
this, in the earlier days if program transition. With Winpack, it will
archive, underthe msg TITLE. And the archive list can get bloated! TPK put
them into a few categories, and they were a bit easier to find, as the
header title was displayed in the list, along with the msgNo.
<ALT><L>,<S> was good at sorting, as you had quite a few options when
sorting:> @ <, to, from as well as date, Destination, @BBS, Source of
msg,Txt in part of header, Txt in title, etc.
The other thing I liked with TPK was the setting up of the config.tpk, as
follows:( Not updated f new callsign yet.)

This had days specified. After that time all untagd messages
disappeared. If you exited & restarted, all "K" tagged msg's dropped off,
but those R & Y could be transferred, or deleted. Thus they showed as K I
did as above when restarting. This keeps the list fairly manageable.
Winpack seems to retain the total list until Delete or Prune is
exeted. A bit more time consuming, as there are many that I don't tag,
but they stay up for weeks, until dispensed with. Any Autodump facility
would be bleeding handy!!
If you want the TPK bits I have, I will send it if you drop a SP saying
so.
Like you I found TPK the BEST DOS packet program I had used, (I used
baycom 1.6 & Gpaphic Packet v 1.21 & 1.61b. I have T$ & TSThost but have
not had much success with them, yet)
I have in 2 versions of TPK; 1.82 & 1.83d (actually 1..82 with 1.83d
update.) Still comes in handy when Winpack/AGW goes belly up, (W98 also)
Cheers/73
