Hello Jerry

you DON'T need an external driver for Win98,
any standard serial (modem) lead should do.

Only three pins are required for a software connection
TXD, RXD and GND.

You may use five pins for hardware handshaking.
AS ABOVE plus RTS and CTS.

 9pin 25pin

  3-------2 TXD (transmit data)
  2-------3 RXD (receive data)
  5-------7 GND (signal ground)
  7-------4 RTS (request to send)
  8-------5 CTS (clear to send)

So, if you make a lead up with the first three
pins only, you must select software handshaking
(or hardware=off) on the P.C.

some software requires DSR and DTR
  6-------6 (data set ready)
  4------20 (data terminal ready)
but it is unlikely you'll use that...

I use a three-wire cable on lots of
different machines (not all P.C's)
