Yes Bob, fully agreed and they do burn out just as frequently as
incandescent! They do get hot and suffer wasted heat syndrome.
More particularly the quoted equivalent output light to an
incandescent, is hopelessly overstated and you really have to ignore
this and go up a couple of sizes to achieve equivalent light. Also to
get a daylight colored one, it costs much more!
They are ugly looking things and just have no place in open site or a
grand chandelier.
One quoted that they have something like 20 bits inside and are
wasteful of resources and as you said, loaded with obnoxious non green
disposables.
Of cause many feel that these along with plastic bags (the best
thing, since sliced bread) as well as the so called climate change are
all pandering to the screaming greens.
Politicians need their votes and green fare is jumped on by those
who can fill their pockets, making ugly windmills and solar panels The
latter of which, do not become totally economically beneficial, unless
they are used north of say the NSW border.
