Our current Minister for This and That including conservation was
promising to pass a law banning the use of incandescent lamps in favour of
the fluorescent energy saving lamps. I have put in these lamps in the
places where lamps are needed the most - in living rooms and shack where
lights are burning for long periods. However I am very disappointed with
their performance. Oh yes! They give more light per watt but they also
burn out with monotonous regularity so that I am sure I am saving nothing
in the way of power costs by using them. The one in this room (radio shack
and computer room) was put into use only a few months ago and it has fused
already tripping the circuit breaker and making a horrible stink in the
room. The question also arises as to how to dispose of the dead marine?
Has it got beryllium or some other hazardous element inside? If so can you
just throw it into the rubbish bin?

What about the motion operated security lights of which I have two outside
each with two 75 watt floods in them? I put those in when a couple of
larrikins came onto the front porch and ripped out the Christmas lighting
one year. If they are goping to get up to some tricks like that they can
do it under the full illumination of the floodlights! How will ES lamps
work in those?
Cheers,
Bob VK6BE.
