Subject: Trace question
Hi all, I am trying to get the Linux DIALD demand dialer working with
my PPP connection, but I am having a problem with the link staying up
permanently. After some tracing with tcpdump, I found that my ISP's
router is sending out packets every 30 seconds looking like the following.
20:57:26.208161 pool1.rkfd.wwa.com.route >pool1-010.rkfd.wwa.com.route
: rip-resp 1: 206.248.176.0(1)
20:57:26.220242 pool1-010.rkfd.wwa.com > pool1.rkfd.wwa.com
: icmp:pool1-010.rkfd.wwa.com udp port route unreachable
20:57:26.282161pool1.rkfd.wwa.com.route > pool1-010.rkfd.wwa.com.route
: rip-resp 11:0.0.0.0(1)[|rip] (frag 13177:232@0+)
20:57:26.324148pool1.rkfd.wwa.com > pool1-010.rkfd.wwa.com
: (frag 13177:136@232+)
20:57:26.380020 pool1.rkfd.wwa.com > pool1-010.rkfd.wwa.com
: (frag13177:144@368)
20:57:26.389256 pool1-010.rkfd.wwa.com >pool1.rkfd.wwa.com
: icmp: pool1-010.rkfd.wwa.com udp port route unreachable
It looks like rip routing protocol transmissions.
Can someone kindly explain these to me?
I need to write some filter rules to ignore these packets and allow the link
to drop.
Thanks,
Dave N9HKM
