Subject: new Z8530 driver version

At last I released version 2.2 of the Z8530 driver for Linux. Here's
a small info:

SCC.C - Linux driver for Z8530 based HDLC cards for AX.25
                        Version 2.2

Kernel versions below 1.3.100 are not supported.

(*) New features (among others):

    - can work as a network device as well
    - driver status available through /proc/net/z8530drv
    - less cli() and more disable_irq()/enable_irq()
    - several bugfixes
    - new TIOC... numbers again :-(
    - fullduplex mode 3 for direct access to RTS and DCD
    - always turning off receiver while tx in halfduplex mode
    - ...

(*) The driver does NOT support a simple BayCom MODEM. It needs a
    Z8530 based controller board.

(*) /etc/z8530drv.rc is now /etc/z8530drv.conf

(*) It should at least work with the following Z8530-SCC boards and
    connected MODEMs

    - BayCom USCC

    - PA0HZP card with and without ESCC and/or external clock divider
      (up to 19200 baud (loopback))

    - TCM3105 modem, 4k8 modem, 9k6 DF9IC modem (loopback), HAPN 4k8 modem
(connected to a SCC board, of course!)

Platforms: Z8530 based HDLC controller board (BayCom USCC,
PA0HZP OptoSCC, etc) needed. No, it does NOT work with
a simple BayCom RS232 MODEM. You'll also need the
kernel AX.25 package or a KA9Q-NET/NOS port for Linux
(ie WAMPES). And --- of course --- an amateur radio
                licence for "real" operation...

Subject: PPP and Livingston Portmaster

Hello all. We just switched to another ISP Ultranet.com and
they are using a Livingston Portmaster.
The problem is that we don't stay 'routed'.
The GW connects fine, it negotiates the PPP fine and then
nothing. We ping the portmaster every 30 sec and that works
fine, but 74% of the time, we can't get anything past the
portmaster out to the internet. Seems that we get between
5 and 7 min of connectivity then everything stops except the
ping to the portmaster. I set up a ping to another GW and
when the portmaster stops routing us no pings get through.
Now for the funny part, every once in awhile, it works fine
for hours and hours, then this starts all over again.
But under all conditions, we ping and get an ack from the
portmaster fine, just can't get by it.
Is this a Portmaster problem ? or is this something that
is wrong with jnos ? running jnos1.11x2 version now.
modem is a USR 14.4 external. Ping to portmaster is 160ms
rtt.
Anyone have any ideas, I am getting tired of calling ultranets
support and getting nowhere. We have a static address too.
Thanks Tom

I relayed Gerard van Essen's fix to a state problem in PPPFSM.C, and this
would
represent a change in behavior from JNOS 1.11x1 to 1.11x2. Please try 1.11x1
and see if this makes any difference. If it does, we broke something.
