Port 14580 on the tier 2 servers or on the javAPRSSrvr core servers will
only send keep-alive lines about every 20 seconds if no packets are
received from your IGate so you are right, this would be a good choice.
However, if you don't even want any keep-alive's, try port 10150 at
socal.aprs2.net This is a port primarily set up for SatGates
(unidirectional "from" the satellites), but will serve your requirements
as well. The only packets that your client will see are messages
addressed directly to your client.
Hope this helps.

Rig runners are really nice, but they're a little expensive.
After a little thought, this is what I've come up with for a poor man's
version.
I've found that the 30amp power pole pins will fit a 4-40 screw. So my
idea is to take two 1/4 copper buss bars and tap them every .3125" for a
4-40 screw (4 iterations). This will leave a 1/16" gap between the two
buss bars which can be filled with plastic insulating material. Thread the
screws up from the bottom thru the buss bar material set a pin on top of
the 4-40 screw and solder it to the screw. It's a snug fit, you'll likley
have to rotate the pin on the screw. Now you can set the power pole
housings on top of the rows of contacts.
If you drill the end of the buss bars perpendicular to the other holes for
a blind hole and tap it, you can have a 5th power pole on the end of the
buss.... Then you can use that to source power for the hole buss.
Combine this with 4 pair housing

we've got a winner. Or instead of using normal 30A contacts and 4-40
screws, use PSB Pins
http://www.powerwerx.com/product.asp?ProdID 04&CtgID=1324&PageNo=1 and
drill .070" holes in the buss bars.

I think you can't get the ppoles to fit when rotated that way.
I have a couple of these, and I was a little surprised to find that you
cant' put the ppoles in just any way.
Un-necessary restrictions.

Good idea though, but I would go for more fanout. :)

I have to ask! Who in their right mind uses 12 or 14 gauge wire for a 30
amp rated circuit? I think these power-pole connectors are a tad bit over
rated. For a typical mobile installation on a 30 amp draw, I'd use nothing
less than 10 gauge wire or multiple 12 gauge wires as my HF Kenwoods use
and more than likely I'd use 6 gauge, if I could find the kind I like!

I never use the contacts anywhere near their ratings.
Typically 3-5A max on any connector.
The main battery feed is a #4, split into two #8's under the dash.
One feeds the front deck, and the other the rear deck.
In the rear, I have the large 75A ppoles, then split it down to the smaller
contacts.
I am a little skeptical that four sets of standard ppoles could do 120A.

I havent seen the detail of what is being discussed, but my first worry
would be that the power-pole connectors are flat and supposed to contact
flat. That is why the "float" in the plastic housing. I think soldering
them HARD to a bus so that they cannot float will guarantee lack of a good
positive self-aligned surface contact. THus leaving them to overheat and
all kinds of other problems.
Again, I am not commenting on this particular idea (I havent seen it), but
anything that destroys the "float" and self-alignment of the contact
surfaces would be problematic in my opinion.

For a backpack tracker I use: TinyTrak II or III, Garmin GPS III Plus,
external Patch GPS antenna and Vertex VX-150 2M HT. I take the patch
antenna which has 3 holes pre-drilled in it and I zip-tie it to the top of
my back pack. I have 2 little slits I cut in the fabric to do this. Then
take the connector to the antenna and put a BNC right angle adapter on it,
connect it to my GPS III Plus and put it in my GPS's carrying case to
protect it. I also run out a custom data cabe to go to the TinyTrak. For
a small hamfest like Shelby I just put the HT in the small back pocket with
the rubber duck sticking out. At Dayton I mounted a small NBC mount on the
right shoulder strap and put a gain HT whip on there for a little more
push. For most one day hamfests I can just run everything on their own
batteries. I use a cable I made up for my TinyTrak with a 9VDC snap
connector comming out of the DB9 shell. I have a pictuire of this setup on
my site at www.ke4nyv.com/tinytrak only in that picture I'm using my Yaesu
VX-1R
Hope that makes sense :o)
