TAPR Membership

TAPR provides a large number of resources to the HAM community. Things such
as this mailing list, the PSR magazine, organising the DCC, sales of Kits
and some parts. But to offer these services we need people to become members
of the organisation. If you benefit from TAPR's services, please consider
joining. Membership does make a difference, and every member does count.

TAPR does not only support APRS, but also digital communications on HF and
VHF. It sells DSP projects, and has one of the best introductory Digital
Communications books available.

We are also always on the lookout for people to assist the organisation with
time and resources. If you have some spare time and would like to assist
TAPR in some way, please contact us at TAPR@TAPR.ORG. We are always needing
technical and non-technical volunteers to assist with various tasks.

DCC Update

The DCC is lining up to be one of the biggest in MANY years. The proceedings
themselves are going to be 248 pages, making this the largest one since
Seattle in 1996. The proceedings will be slightly smaller than the seattle
ones, but is a lot larger than the 50 pages of the 2001 proceedings.

For those attending the DCC, we would encourage you to visit the ARRL HQ at
Newington, Ct, just a few miles up the road. Check out the ARRL www site for
opening hours. More details on the DCC can be found at www.tapr.org/dcc

One word of warning - the hotel is VERY quickly filling up, so it is
important to book quickly. The special hotel price of $99 has been extended
to September 5 so book now.

PSR Back-Catalog

The back catalog of PSR has now been scanned, and will soon be available
from the office on CD-ROM. All the issues are in the process of being OCR'ed
to allow searching, and an announcement will be made as soon as they are
available for purchase. This single CD-ROM will allow people with the PSR's
to gain several inches of shelf space once the CD-ROM is available. The 1994
and 1995 annual proceedings are scheduled for scanning some time after the
DCC.

Electronic PSR

For those that do not know, the PSR magazine is now distributed
electronically. More details can be found at www.tapr.org/psr

Board Update

During the DCC, the board will be meeting for their 6-monthly meeting. The
board will also be participating in a strategic review of the organisation,
and we hope to have some results from the review published soon after the
event.

PayPal Membership Renewals

TAPR is now offering PayPal as an option for renewal of membership. Until we
get the membership renewal letters changed, members wishing to renew through
PayPal should contact the office for a 'PayPal Invoice'.

Back issues of DCC Proceedings

TAPR has a space problem, and we are hoping that our members might be able
to help. We have literally hundreds of proceedings from past Digital
Communications Conferences and are wanting to get rid of them. So for a
limited time only, we are offering copies of any proceedings from 1981 to
2000 for the cost of postage and handling. All you need to do is contact the
office and let them know what proceedings you are interested. We will ship
anywhere in the world.

In many cases, the numbers are strictly limited, although TAPR has over 400
copies of one edition from the early 1990s to distribute.

Johnson used this connector for a long time on some of their commercial
radios w/o problems. I do not think that soldering one side of the
connector to something rigid will cause a problem. This allows the pigtail
end from the radio to still float and mate properly. To solder both ends of
the connector to something rigid, might cause problems as Bob suggested.
