Back in 1999 Bob Bruninga wrote an article on commercial tracking via
cellular service title cellular.txt (ver 8.4.2) utilizing a MIM/Mic-Lite
module

Does anyone know if this has been updated since then, or
could this system be updated to utilize the new 1X cellular technology?

I fired off a couple of messages to Bob, the first one back on the 12th, but
have not as yet received any response.

won't work with a digital cellphone.. the vocoders are not optimized for
modem tones. It does work with analog cellphones, but the FCC is sunsetting
the requirement that the carriers provide analog service in january 2004.
Isn't it interesting that the whole law about scanners not being able to
recieve 900mhz will soon be a moot point.

If the skywarn symbol is in the same as the Stormwatch symbol, then I like
the way Dale has implemented its' use on the wxserv. It allows you to
quickly look at the map screen and know if there is any type of Skywarn
Activation or not. Very good.

UI-View already supports the skywarn icon. Also it has a plug in called
UI-NWS that plots wx watches and warnings on your map. It uses shape files
from the USGS site (which you download) and paints the affected counties
red, orange or yellow as appropriate. Also draws an outline of the affected
area of concern. If you are connected to the internet you can call up the
actual NWS bulletin for that event from within UI-View.
