People...

This is what I do for a job, but mostly with GPRS/GSM and not CMDA. The 1X
and GPRS are cheap since they are able to operate on packet switched data,
and not a voice connection.

This unit will interface directly to my OziAPRS software, and a small
server can be written to very easally insert the data into the APRS data
stream, and then send the data from the APRS data stream back to the unit,
and out its serial port. Cute application.

I don't have a CDMA version of that, but it is certainly possible. Another
solution is to use the NetGPS software with a PDA to upload the data. Once
again, my OziAPRS software has a server for this too :-)

More interesting is the fact that here in Australia GSM was chosen because
at the time there was no fallback capability to 800 MHz AMPS. Therefore
since each carrier needed to build their new networks, none had an unfair
advantage.

But no one ever did anything with it and now that cellurlar has gone
digital, my ideas are obsolete...

This appears to be a very interesting delema here with the proposal of
analog's ability to go away in less than 6 months.

The ever popular On-Star system I believe is based on 800 Mhz Analog
using a tried and true Motorola 3w mobile. This is coming out on more
and more GM cars/trucks every year.

This would mean that the On-Star packages in GM cars would disappear
once carriers decide to pull the analog channels. They are not required
to pull them but what the FCC has said is that they can after January.
What would happen then ?? I guess a lot of people will have a GPS in
there car that would be useless except for "hacking". I have read that
at least one ham has managed to do this with a few simple modifications.

Current On-Star support I believe is from Verizon with ATT Wireless as a
roaming partner for areas that Verizon does not have 800 Mhz AMPS.

Anyone on the list have a On-Star ? Maybe you can give Customer Service
a call and throw them a really big curve ball... Let us know what you
find out!

I'm having problems trying to relay my truck to the internet -- it just
doesn't seem to do it here. It works through other stations farther "down
the line", but I can't seem to get it going here. I've tried in the past,
and had problems for hours, then suddenly it started working. Darned if I
can figure out why!

Here's my settings for WinAPRS:

Feed (echo) local data to TCP/IP
Auto Re-connect
Enable outgoing 3rd party messages

These three are checked, and I'm connected to AHUBWEST.NET via port 10154,
using AFilter. Anybody see what's causing my truck to NOT be put into the
internet stream here? The truck is currently using a path of NONE so it
won't get to someone else's station. It's just outside my back yard, so my
(supposed) IGATE setup can hear it directly.

Thanks,
Earl

Group, I have a quick question. I lost my HD in my APRSd server(Grand
Rapids, MI IGATE), but I have it back online with the latest version.

My question is what to put in the gate2rf field to get the most info
possible to our NWS spotters. We all use APRS here for SkyWarn activity.

I currently have it set as:

Gate2rf GRR* DTX* APX*

This gets me weather bulletins and show up as positions both on Xastir
and D700. What we really want are the SKYWARN bulletins that I believe
come out as SKYGRR then something?

So my question is should I add SKYGRR to the gate2rf command or the
mesg2rf command (which is for message groups) or sky* or nothing at all?

I need to be able to get this info to the spotters that want it. I am
not even sure exactly what comes through the skygrr messages, but I have
had many requests to instate it.

Can you clarify!
Thanks,

Mike Wolthuis

Anyone know offhand what the specs are for clock support in the T-238
firmware?

I'm loosing power quite a bit, and while I'm not quite ready to run a line
over to my UPS for my computer, I've been thinking about a clock for
the T-238.

I remember it supports a clock on the '1-Wire'.

Anyone here do that?

Mike

I just uploaded a new version of Webupdatewx to the http://karpfamily.net
website. It now has the ability to save the Radar settings and is able to
download the Canadian radar Images again. Let me know if you have any
problems.
You need to uninstall any installation of WebUpdateWX that you have
installed before Installing version 2.3. Read the ReadMe file for more
information.
