I seem to have "lost" the APRSSIG Digest for Aug. 22nd, Norton AV said it
had a virus in it, and cleaned it up. I've got a header for the 1st message

Anybody know what happened? Pls email me direct.

I heard (unconfirmed rumor) that the both are the same. You will get
with the upgrade exactly what you get when you buy the full version.
It's just $10 cheaper. You will also need to upgrade your PmapServer
from the TAPR website. There was some discussion about this in the
UI-View mailing list a few weeks/months ago, so you may want to check
the group's archives. I remember also seeing something on running PMAP5
and PMAP6 concurrently in UI-View.
I personally think that UI-View with PMAP 5 or 6 gives you the BEST APRS
Mapping Solution that is available right now.
Good luck with it

The data on Findu doesn't seem to go back very far -- did I miss something
while I was on the road? I looked at my track at
http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/track.cgi?line=1&call=kd5xb-10&geo=usa.geo&start=20
16&length=2160
and it looked like data for only a week or perhaps two.
Thanks,
Earl

Gents,
I have been experimenting
http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/mapurl.cgi?call=vk4*&xsize=600&ysize=500&refres
h=180&scale=650000&last=24
Explanation
call=vk4* (all vk4 stations)
xsize/ysize = image size
refresh =180 (3 minutes)
scale=650000 (mapblast scale)
last 24 = last 24 hours
Modify these figures, and play at will, just past the lot into ur address
window on your browser.

Can someone explain why Findu shows KD5XB-7 and KD5XB-9? I have only used
-2, -10, and -15 in the past year or so. -7 and -9 both seem to have
KB9YVN in the path. I'm a bit confused.
Thanks,
Earl

Were seeing the same thing here coming thru the igates here, I have
apr, -3, -9 and sometimes -7. Sometimes just the apr ends up with a ssid
which I have never ran one at home... We took care of a Igate a few
weeks ago doing this, and over the last few it started again. And I
wasn't able to pen point this time last. I will contact YVN....

Bizarre.. Is this "passall on" or something else?

The funny thing is, that I saw -9 on my HamHUD one time, so
apparently it's happening on RF as well as the internet feed. Hmm...
Thanks,
Earl

It could be "passall", it could be MIC-E packets with characters
getting dropped, it could be corruption on serial lines or due to
long interrupt latencies while servicing UART's. Could also be
software misbehaving or computers misbehaving, or new software that
doesn't have the bugs worked out yet.
The Mic-E characters getting dropped can be due to bad TNC settings.
MFILTER can cause this, particulary the default setting on AEA TNC's.

I seem to remember a discussion about some ROM that would mistakenly
decriment the CALL-SSID in response to a WIDEn-N decriment. Was it a
flawed UI-DIGI rom? I can't remember. Anyway...it happened on RF as part
of a digipeat request.
My memory is getting feeble. Sorry.

Incredible tragedy has struck by way of massive fires several
communities in the Province of British Columbia.
Amatuer radio operators are active in provinding communications and
resources in very difficult situations. APRS is active in many
situations. To all the brave men and women facing the fire we offer
thanks and courage. To those evacuated in uncertainty we offer our
prayers. To our fellow amateurs...Remember to care for the needs of your
own family first. If you have not been directly affected then keep your
equipment ready and test it well. This extreme weather event is not yet
over.
take care all
