Dick,
It doesn't appear to be a Round Robin. All these packets are coming from
individual stations, no dups.

Good eye Steve. {30{0 .... seems the first ID number is being ignored. And
something has inserted the second {0 causing the system to choke. I guess
it depends where. Still the raw packets from PRKRAZ-1 appear corrupt.

I would certainly be interested in a keyboard setup for a D7!

My original question was actually about a keyboard for something like a
HamHUD. I guess if that many people have a use for a keyboard on a Kenwood,
this would probably be useful as well.

Basically I'm just trying to decide at this point if it's worth designing in
hardware support for a keyboard input in my new project. The major issues
are connector space (the rear panel is already solid connectors) and voltage
level conversion since keyboards use 5 volts.

I'll keep it in mind, and try to add what support I can. No promises,
though.

That link and a link to the aero_aprs list were just added to the

I cannot seem to get the aprs software to get data from the GPS. Assuming
right now, the software is ok (UI-View32). I have built a cable. I have pin
2 on the KPC DB-9 wired to pin 2 on the GPS DB-9. I have Pin 6 on the KPC
DB-9 wired to pin 5 on the GPS db-9. Is this correct? If so, then what am i
doing wrong to not get data from the GPS to the TNC, and into the software?
thanks in advance.

You have to tell the TNC to use the 2nd serial port for gps..

BLT 1 EVERY 00:01:30 CLEAR
GPSHEAD 1 $GPRMC
GPSPORT 4800 NORMAL CHECKSUM
GPSTIME VALID RMC
LTP 1 GPSLV V RELAY,WIDE,WIDE

You should see data placed in the LT 1 buffer... type LT at the prompt to see
the contents of all four LT buffers.

Richard,

Check that the Garmin is outputting NEMA data, generally at 4800 baud. The
Garmin's default is a propriety format call, of all things, Garmin. I'm not
at my UI-View now, but you might want to see if you can see the data out of
the GPS using a simple terminal program like Hyperterm to insure that that
part of the equation is working. With the GPS format set to NEMA, you
should be able to read sentences that start with $GP with $GPGGA and $GPRMC
being the most common.

As Wes says in another email you need to set the comm. Port in the TNC. I
believe, not real sure, that the GPS info will only beacon out the RF side
and not through the DB-25 back to UI-View. UI-View expects to see GPS data
coming on a separate com port on the computer.

A better way might be to get a second serial port for the computer and let
UI-View receive the GPS data and send it to the TNC.

That's the way I run my tracker.

Good luck.

Subject: Emergency Services/APRS Mailing List

With the recent "CAP and APRS" thread on APRSSIG bringing up the question
of a SAR and emergency services related mailing list, Herb reminded me of
the sar-aprs list.

I asked Jeff, owner of the list, whether we could expand the list from
SAR/APRS topics to Emergency Services/APRS topics, and the answer was
positive. To that end the list will get published for those purposes and
we'll get some discussions going there that benefit all sorts of emergency
services that are using or considering the use of APRS. This list can be
found here:

    http://www.sbsar.org/aprs/

Let's get a bunch of SAR/CAP/MARS/RACES/ARES and other emergency service
group members on there and get some discussion going!

Second topic: A open-source SAR management package was just released to
the world on the 12th (monday). A link to it is at the bottom of the Wiki
page listed above. It's at:

    http://e-gads.sourceforge.net/

This page has those two links on it plus others that might be of interest:

I've tried to pull up the maps for WAP APRS and my phone doesn't want to
display them. It is mobile web enabled and capable of displaying graphics in
gif format for sure. When I type n a call it just comes back with the map
size but no map, is there a trick to this or is my phone not capable of
displaying the map's format. The phone is a Motorola T-720
