At present the only server which allows a reliable connection from this side
of the pond is Third.

This shows the number of North American stations reporting data to APRSWXNET
during the past 4 days. There was a slight drop from the normal number of
about 1200 yesterday.

We are aware of the configuration situation at K4ROK-10. We also have
known about it from the very day the WX station went back on line, it
has been down for 3 months!!. I have been a member of this list for
some time now and most of the time keep my mouth shut, my keyboard quiet
and watch most subjects beat to death. If everyone will be patient
K4ROK-10 will be back in full service I have already responded to the
very first posting off line, and the problem will be taken care of. We
knew about it well before the first message as I have told John in the
beginning. I thank Steve K4HG for all his hard work and dedication to
APRS, But the ones shouting the loudest do not know the equipment, the
setup used or very little about the situation. I thank eastern North
Carolina for their patience, but most of us do have to work to afford
these perks and toys in life, we will get it straight before it goes to
its new home very soon.
Thanks you for your support

Do you have a webpage or online documentation??? Sounds very interesting...

We're struggling with this too. (NEWPRT and LINCON digis) are up and
running with Peet and KPC3+'s, but it doesn't produce an APRS spec
compliant packet and the Kenwoods don't copy it. So, my first approach
was to install the WXTrak from Byonics on the site and make it do the
weather packets, which is pretty close. However it sends the weather in
one packet, and the position in another. Byon said he has that on his
list to change when he gets a chance. We're hoping for the best solution
of a single packet with both.
To that end, we're in the preliminary stages of designing a PIC based
solution. This device would take input from one of 4 or 5 weather
stations supported on the RS-232 port, parse it, add the position,
construct an APRS compatible packet with position and weather (or
alternately an 'easy to read on any terminal' or a comma delimited
format) and force it out the RS-232 port to be fed to the TNC.
We've somewhat decided on what functions it would have, and are
constructing some very basic documentation to see how it would go
together. Next is to solicit support and see if it is of interest to
anyone else, and then move forward with the code to make it happen.
It's just a plan at this point, curious if it would work for most folks
trying to accomplish this.

I'm wondering if there is a one-stop webpage that shows the status of the
core-servers...

Jon,
Maybe you missed something but there were no problems with the configuration
with K4ROK-10. When everything was put back up earlier this week the
weather reports came out fine. The problem was a parsing error at findU
that Steve corrected (see earlier email). Weather reports seen locally were
fine (I have a bunch archived if needed).
BTW, Doug's digipeater (K4ROK-10) has some really impressive coverage! Hope
to get the coverage mapped out next week...

It would be trivial to put together.

Yeah... I was thinking about what someone else posted that they could see
certain ones from another location... If a true network failure occurred on
a wide-scale setting users would be able to see some and not others and
would vary at each location...
I don't remember the exact webpage that had all the links to the status
pages of the Core Servers but that would probably be the best resource for
checking from a certain location.
