Something very strange, and bad, is going on with the NWS radar. About a
third of the country's image sites cannot be accessed, the others all
stopped updating about 0600 UTC.
Never seen this before, hope it is just a glitch that will be fixed when
the right person wakes up and gets his lazy butt to work ;-)

Yep- Weathertap is still current so the basic system must be up- does
this mean there is a single point of failure for NWS Radar images using NWS?

Would seem so, or else they decided to get rid of the free images.
This has nothing to do with findU or the way I use images, if you go to the
NWS radar site:
http://www.nws.noaa.gov/radar_tab.html
And click on the US, any area you click will bring up an old map...

Everywhere I clicked I got an up to date map? Try clearing out your temp
Inet files.

I know we know the difference between Local and UTC, but all of the
areas I click on shows a radar image of 05:52 UTC, which is several
hours old, :-(
Maybe, just maybe, there is a secret conspiracy to get rid of Freebie
type of services, such as APRS's users. 8 million hits a month to FINDU,
let alone the millions of non aprs hits at these Radar and Map sites
receive since the onslaught of Cable modems and always connected operation.
Do we unnecessarily bombard these sites just because we can? What is
involved Steve, of maintaining such sites?

I have posted the results of the Survey and the Destination Stats. PLEASE
READ the associated text that goes with the graphs BEFORE commenting on
them. I think I did okay with the disclaimers on each. Those with more
legal skills could probably do better.

Now I forget why we were even getting the data! :)
Thanks,

Why did you exclude UI-View32 which is easily noted by APUxxx, or what
am I missing on your graph?
Great job BTW

It is there... UI-View TOTAL = UI-View16 + UI-View32 + UI-View + UI-View
Terminal... I kept the numbers together like the Xastir.
Just for play...
UI-View - 492
UI-View16 - 10
UI-View32 - 161
UI-View Terminal - 4
The definitions didn't specify on some of the UI-View addresses so I just
combined them.

Since 29 Feb I've gotten 240,214 hits from findu. So basically three days.
Multiply that by 10 and it is a little over 2.4 million hits a month.

YES!
I'm now supply Steve will all of his mapping for the find.cgi page. The vast
majority of those maps are comming out of my cache which means they have been
requested before.
This is because Steve has every page automatically refresh and on every page
has 3 maps.
Let's compare findu.com to aprsworld.net:
aprsworld:
http://db.aprsworld.net/datamart/switch.php?call=k0ny-7&table=position&=
maps=yes&search=Search
aprsworld requests one map and then lets the user zoom if they want. I have
capabilities to have the page automatically refresh but in the last two years
I've only had a handful of people request it.
findu:
http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/find.cgi?k0ny-7
findu requests three maps right off the bat. Then every 3 minutes it requests
it again. and again. and again.
From a systems standpoint if I wanted to reduce the ammount of maps requested
by findu I would do the following:
1) turn off auto refreshing and makes that a button or checkbox to enable.
or
1) only automatically refresh pages that have something moving on them.
2) request only one map and one scale and let the user zoom if they want more.
-----
There are radar mosaics of the US nexrad available so all that Steve has to
do to get radar back on his site is go to the effort to use that free data
and do the processing himself.
