I was responding to a message from James Jefferson, in which he was
suggesting a more frugal way to use bandwidth. I'm not sure if that is
indicative of a "problem", it is certainly indicative of a hosts opinion.

What is disingenuous is the above statement. The only point I am trying to
make is there is no such thing as a free lunch, and when your host suggests
ways to be more economical of bandwidth, you don't dismiss them out of hand.
Being economical with bandwidth, in particular when you are getting it for
"free" is just the smart thing to do with regards to the bigger picture.

I can't put it any more simple then that, so please lets move on. Your right,
if you host doesn't mind, there is no problem. I just thought it was a good
idea that should be considered. Your legions of users have spoken and we must
listen to them.

Date: Wednterest in APRS has sparked a desire to see if can make use of
them.

They are Motorola CMD-2003-GPS development systems. Here's a link that
describes the unit: http://www.axman.com/Pages/neuprod8_cmd2003.html

Does anyone on the list have any information on using this unit with APRS?
I heard that they may use a different data structure (Not NMEA) and some
sort of conversion software would be required.

We'd like to use these units for mobile operation, possibly using a
TinyTrak as an interface, but barring that, a direct connection to a PC
would be fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

I would like to hear from Jim rather than you about this, AFAIK he hasn't
authorized you to speak for him. When we have talked about this before
there was no discussion that his opinion would superceed my user's opinions
or my opinions on the directiob of findU. If he had introduced such a
restriction I would never have used his maps in the first place, and I
still do not believe that was his intention.

What I heard was he gave his take on things, the way he does it on
ARSworld. I countered with the fact that I am following the wishes of my
users, and in any event, why his idea would not, in my opinion, decrease
the utilization on his server, which he had said is not causing a problem
anyway.

I again want to be very clear that if I do cause a problem, or even if he
just doesn't want me to use his server any longer, I will remove the links
immediately, with no hard feelings whatsoever.

Again, I've spent considerable time adressing this issue, making it clear
that this is not out-of-hand, but rather based both upon what my users
want, and upon firm usage patterns that indicate the changes would not
decrease bandwidth.

Have you been able to retrieve it yet? The article indicates that you
haven't, but I'm guessing it's not all that up-to-date.

Not yet... We're hoping to get it back this weekend.
