Xastir now supports the 1:50k and 1:250k online Toporama maps that Steve
Dimse provides via mm.aprs.net and his CGI scripts. I'm tracking mobiles
across Canada using those maps right now in Xastir. CVS (latest) Xastir
sources have this. Gives a Contiguous topo view of any (small) part of
Canada. Support in Xastir is new as of about midnight last night. Update
to the latest Xastir sources and you can have it to.

I'll work on the local Toporama map support later, once the newness of
actually having free topo maps online for Canada wears off.

Scott et al,

Your question regarding connecting to the commercial Motorola GP68 handhelds
raises another question. You do not state what frequencies the SAR team is
using these on;  155.16 etc.?

Have you verified the legality of APRS signals on these frequencies. If you
have, I would appreciate reference to the enabling FCC regulations. I have
been told that APRS data would NOT be legal there.

Cheers,

Not sure yet, but that's definitely something that needs to be investigated.
My concern for now is technical feasability, but if anyone's got any good
references on the legal issues, let me know.

No Connectors. 8 inline holes that can be used with a 1x8 header
posts, or just direct wiring. The goal for this is very small, very
light custom trackers, like model airplanes, rockets, inside
microphones, inside radios, etc. No sure what the interest will be,
but will find out.
