Subject: [TM-D700] APRS RELAY
Hi all,
I've got a fellow ham who has installed a D700 on a mountain top and is
using it as an APRS Relay. He is not sure if he has the configuration
right. Has any one out there done this? If so, could you share the
configuration? This site is only accessible by helicopter now, so multiple
trips to the mountain can be very costly.
Thanks in advance,

Yes, upgrade to UIView32 and use the "Exclude Station" menu to remove
stations you don't want.
Or you could use AFilter to filter your Internet feed.

Jacob,
Are you using one of the "filtered" servers Port 14580? not in a
position to give the filter commands, but I use aprswest.net:14580 and
just except NWS with a filter of t/n. There are several urls of how to
use the filters.. Not able or in a position to direct you at the moment..
Good luck,
Robbie

Two ways:
1) Run latest UI-View or Xastir. Both of them have filtering for
the local display.
2) Connect to a filtered feed and filter out what you don't want to
see.

Don't you just love how every other question on the sig becomes an
advertisement for one client program or another?
I'm afraid I cannot answer your question exactly because I'm not a Windows
user, but yes, there are ways to do it in WinAPRS. One is to connect to a
filtered port on the APRS Internet System and send a message to the server
telling it what you want to filter. Perhaps someone more familiar with the
syntax could give you the exact message you need. This is, in fact, what
the advertised programs do, sending the message automatically when you
connect.
I also think that AFilter can do this, running between WinAPRS and the APRS
Internet system, perhaps someone on the sig will give you a better
explanation on this option.
None of these options is hassle free, if you stay with WinAPRS and use the
filter port you will need to send the string each time you connect, if you
switch to another client program you will have to learn a new way of doing
things, and perhaps spend money, and AFilter means installing and
configuring a new program on your PC. Only you can decide which fits your
needs best...

Ahhh..... OK, cool, that is even better. So any person, that has written a
APRS application, is on the WG. It it good that people like James, Curt,
John, Byon and others are now included. Sounds like progress to me.

That's half the fun isn't it? ;-

Yes and no. Xastir and UI-View can connect to filtered feeds, but they
also can do "display" filtering, so that you can choose which types of
stations/objects to display, but the client program is still
receiving/storing the data off the internet feeds. Changing the display
setting instantly shows you a different view of your internal data.
I usually connect to the firenet filtered feed, but also change my display
settings to see different sets of objects.

I was not trying to start something by using the word icon. That was the
first thing that I thought of to define it. Being new at APRS, I was just
concerned that I was not sending the proper information.

The important settings I can think of are:
APRS MENU:
Set position
Set TX to AUTO
Set rate to 20
Set path to WIDE,WIDE
Set DIGI ON
Set UIDIGI list to RELAY,WIDE
Set STATUS text to whatever
Set SYMBOL to # and TABLE to \ and Overlay character to "W"
I hope that is all...?

Xastir is represented there. Seems the correct forum.
