Texas maps are in Cmapsxx.zip which is the central states from Northa
Dakota down to Texas. RTAPR Digest, Oct 11, 2/2
if you want to
keep the load smalll. Comment-out any MAPLIST.CEN entries for which you
dont have any maps.
Good luck.

Primary APRS will be on 144.34 MHz with callsign N9XTN-11. Digipeating will
be enabled with an alias of NSTAR.
Backup APRS will be on 144.39 MHz with callsign N9XTN-12. Data will be
transmitted once per minute near the top of each minute.
SSTV will be on 147.585 MHz. A picture will be generated every 3 minutes.
The SSTV will be hooked to the camcorder looking horizontally.
Total flight time should be about 2 hours, with a max altitude of around
80,000 ft.
See http://www.nstar.org for more details.

If I where forced to guess; through the cleanout plug. This may be one of
those things where it sounds plausible and practical at first. Discovering
later that implementation and maintenance is a bear. Could spell the end of
using the roto-rooter <sp?>.--73

I don't think its a joke, it is existing technology. We in the Netherlands
have a big natural gas reserve. Gas is distributed through pipes to every
household in the city and in vilages, its used for central heating and
cooking.
These gas pipes are ideal to also carry fiber optics. Of course in gas it
is much safer as in a sewer pipe (pure liquid or gas form without any
agressive components) but the idea is the same. The fiber comes out of the
gas pipe as soon as it enters the house and before the gas-meter that
measures the gas usage. I guess in case of a sewer pipe the fiber will also
be taken out as soon as it entered the house.
There are already fibers in the big sewer pipes/drains below street level,
but they are nicely mounted to the sealing and don't touch anything. These
are man-mounted, no fancy technolgy (except a gas-masks and oxigen
tanks?...).
Kind regards,
Henk.

The ARRL lists TX/RX turn around times in their reviews of transceivers.
If someone were inclined to be of service to the entire APRS community,
they could go "review by review" and catalogue Make,Model,TX/RX
turn-around.
Once done, this effort would have profound impact on the APRS channel
loading.
Is there anyone on-list willing to give it a go?
