I cut the plug from one of the PDA cables. There are only 3 wires in it.
2-3-5. My KPC-3 turnes it on with internal batteries. It puts a sig into
pin 3.

Excellent pages. You're certainly doing a great job with G4IDE's
UI-View32 Web Server.

BTW. Although it doesn't impact on us over here, I found that Yuma page
very interesting. Super job!

Because you are using the "real" main (fully bi-directional) serial port of
a KPC3.

If you use the input-only second serial port (dedicated GPS input port) of
a KPC3+, the RS GPS won't turn on unless pin 3 of the GPS cable is pulled
up to a positive voltage source of some sort. Can be anything from +3 to
+12 VDC.

Good information, but, I finally dug the manual out and the DR610
apparently predates the standard. There is no Mini Din on it. It uses
several small diameter stereo style plugs and looking at the manual there
is no way to accomplish what I want with 1200 baud afsk packet. It might
work for 9600 but the 1200 baud example shows it being fed from the front
wthrough the mike connector.

I was just hoping I could reduce the rig count by one in the car. Maybe the
DR620 has the 6 pin, but not the DR610.

Rather than call CQ on 52 every 2 minutes all day, an easier wayto find
other APRS mobiles is to listen on 144.39 with CTCSS 100. If you hear any
packets it means another APRS Voice Alert mobile is in simplex range
ready for a voice qso. similarly,if you have PL set on your mobile, then
they will hear you too.

Anyone care to share any Isabel-related APRS use with the list?

FireNet provided increased sensor data into the area and from the area upon
request from an EOC using APRS prior to Isabel hitting land. Prior to
Isabel coming ashore, surface conditions on land and at sea could be viewed
all along the East Coast via APRS on FireNet
(http://www.dwrracesupport.com/fire ).
Thanks to Curt, WE7U and James, KK5WM and Dale, KG5QD and the rest of the
FireNet Team, Firenet's Region 2 and 10 data was humming right along!
Wxsvr data, gaging stations, RAWS (Remote Automated Weather Stations),
Buoys, C-man and Metar stations gave an excellent view of surface conditions
during the event in near real-time. Data also included CWOP stations.

The USGS folks did try to give FireNet better data prior to the event but
could not due to their sensors data coming from GOES systems that are at
fixed transmission rates. I might add, that as time goes by, these somewhat
outdated systems are being replaced with terrestrial collection systems
where they in easily increase readings in times of need.

On a side note, and very important, Isabel gave FireNet's Region 2 an
opportunity to make contact with USGS individuals responsible for data
distribution. Contacts such as these are important to the Amateur
Community.

So, even though FireNet did not do a whole bunch we did do something to
help using APRS. APRS is an excellent mode of communications that can
paint a very good picture of a local tactical environment and APRS really
shines by providing sensor and tracking data during such events such as
Isabel.

I just returned from a 6750 mile trip around the US - Tucson-Salt Lake
City-Sault Ste. Marie-DC-New Orleans-Tucson. I had my D700 running the
CTCSS 100 the whole trip with a status showing to call 144.39 PL100. I
heard a grand total of 3 different stations with PL enabled and could only
identify one of them and that was a fixed station around Des Moines
beaconning once a minute. One of the other 2 was in the DC area and I
can't recall where the other one was.

Also never did see anything from Bob in the 4 days I was in the
DC-Dumfries, VA area. That did surprise me.

Cool! Who used the sensor data?

No idea! I do not know how it was used or who used it. I would imagine
people within that EOC were the ones that used it.
