I was on my boat during Isabel and was running my TTII.
It seemed to work as well as ever.

Were you involved in any emergency communication using APRS, or just out
for a leisurly 3-hour tour on the Minnow? :)

Anybody know what the min voltage is that the digtraveller will run on the
external jack. Through together a quicky regulator with a 7805 and a
couple of diodes on ground to bump it up to about 5.7 volts. The gps
powers up and my tiny tracker starts flashing so some data is coming but
never gets a lock(apparently). As soon as I switch back to internal
batteries it gets a gps lock within 3-10 seconds with no problems. Soon as
I plug the external power back in it loses gps lock and starts flashing.

Am I below the minimum operating voltage coming through the connector???

I would think that is ok. The internal batteries are only 4.5v as they are
3 alkalines. Are they 'switched out' when you plug in? Do they 'diode or'
with the external supply?

There is a FWB in series with the power jack. That means at worst case
you're probably looking at 1.4v drop. The mods that add a regulator inside
the thing add it AFTER the FWB, so to have the equivalent of 5v to the
circuit, you'd have to provide 6.4v or so.

Still...

There is nothing in the instructions that says take the batteries out to
use external power, so unless plugging in DISABLES the batteries, it should
be a 'minimum' of the two. That means the voltage isn't the issue. Or you
wouldn't think so.

I wonder... How is the ground between your power and your computer? I
wonder... If the power ground and the comm ground are the same, then the
FWB will not have a ground drop, so it's only .7v to the circuit.

Real quick sanity check... Use an LM317. Take a small pot and adjust it
for 5.7v, tie the ps ground to the comm ground, and see if it locks up
correctly...

Uh -- isn't this the same as they used to sell so you could use a mouse AND
a trackball on the same AT port? If so, are these cables still out there
somewhere?

Thanks,
