Still no reception in Copenhagen on 15345 at 17 UTC, but

has German with some interruptions (congestions). Guess this test
transmission will end at July 31?
(Erik Koie-DEN, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews July 21)

Re: RAE in Deutsch. Hi Erik, was on 15344.01 kHz at 1739 UT tonight,
switched my Eton E1 to SYNC lsb mode. Reliable reception here in Germany.
Radio 700 technician Christian Milling and German service editor Rayen
Braun in Buenos Aires had the idea of these test series.

For the Atlantic cross path, 1700 UT start time is too early, 1800 UT
would fit much better. I don't know, whether this test will end on July
31.

In Aug and Sept the 1700-1800 UT slot would be much stronger here in
Europe.

Thanks for your reply. Volker says that it will continue after July 31st,
as 'a regular broadcast'. Up here we do not hear the same as you do,
probably due to our still long days, but - as you write - it will change
in a month or two.

CANADA MISCELLANEOUS Ian McFarland sent information about the new CD
set he recently released (full details are available at
<http://www.dxer.ca>
website). It addresses the changes in international shortwave broadcasting
since 1979. In the third in a series of CDs, "Yesterday and Today",
produced by Ian McFarland and DXer.ca, a panel of experts explains how we
got here from there.

The panel includes Ian McFarland, John Figliozzi, Kim Elliott, Jeff White
and Bob Zanotti - men with strong opinions and lots of experience. Their
lively panel discussion captures the spirit of a highly dynamic medium -
International shortwave broadcasting... Where it was, where it is now...
and Where it's going in the future. 30 years of Shortwave broadcasting in
words a nd opinions - with a nostalgic look back at a joint RCI-SRI
broadcast from 1989 and a forum from 2009... And a broad collection of
opinions from DXers - from the 2007 SWL Winterfest in Kulpsville,
Pennsylvania.

The new CD set costs only US$15.00 in North America or US$17.00 worldwide
from Ian McFarland, #17 - 3025 Cowichan Lake Road, Duncan, BC V9L 4B5,
Canada. Checks, cash and charge cards (American Express, Discover, Master
Card, VISA). You can also order by going directly to the website. The net
proceeds from the sale of these CDs are being donated to the local Food
Bank in Duncan, British Columbia, a registered charity. To date, over 700
CD's have been sold.

History of 2002:
MACEDONIA 810 MW new Thales unit on air? With aid of France and Germany,
the Macedonian authorities are in the stage of replace old MW unit
equipment of the 810 kHz unit at present. Work by Thales-France and the
local Macedonians started in late January, and should in the final stage
at end of April.

I forgot the source, either DW press release of last year, when announcing
the purchase contract to Thales, or the Bulgarians (Observer/Pankov) after
contact the chief engineer at Skopje, told the DX World of 133 kW power on
MW 810.

Do you have monitored that 810 kHz Skopje channel recently, do you've any
changes in characteristics observed?
(wb df5sx, Apr 21, 2002)

By the way, has anybody reliable information about the actual power once
used on 810? I think (but I could be wrong) that Skopje used to dominate
the channel here until the mid-nineties or so. This would suggest that 810
was operated with higher power than 133 kW in the past. If so, why the
reduction? Severe tx worn-out?
(Olle Alm-SWE, BC-DX Apr 22, 2002)

The power 135 kW in 1971 looks like a tx manufactured by Elektroimpex in
Hungary. This txtype was manufactured since (at least) the early 1950s.
(Bernd Trutenau-LTU, BC-DX Apr 22, 2002)

Now I also remember the 135kW txs that operated in Hungary - I did'nt know
who built them.

Elektroimpex built several 135 kW trs, including Kaliningrad 1385, but
CFTH (Thomson) also built several ones (model 721), including Ljubljana,
Zagreb, according to WRTH 1957.

Already in WRTH 1957 a CFTH model 1392 25 kW is listed for Skopje.

In WRTH 1958 the 135 kW txer pops up for Skopje, but it never shows up in
the CFTH lists, so may be Hungarian made, but see below.

In WRTH 1964 it says that BBC delivered (no year) 100 kW SW for Stublice
and 100 kW MW for Skopje. A little bit of confusion here ...
(Olle Alm-SWE, BC-DX Apr 22, 2002)

MACEDONIA 810 HIGH-POWER AM TRANSMITTER INAUGURATED. Macedonian Prime
Minister Ljubco Georgievski formally put a new 1200 kW medium-wave tx
"Ovce Pole" into operation on Monday [10 June, 2002].

In his address at the ceremony, Georgievski extended gratitude to the
German and French embassies for putting this project among their
priorities, as it would enable for the Macedonian Radio-Radio Skopje to
improve its bcing quality throughout the country and the region.

French Ambassador Francois Terrell said that this project presented a new
opportunity for the voice from Macedonia to be spread throughout Europe,
while German Ambassador Werner Burkhardt said it was a new approach to
democratisation of the relations in Macedonia.

The tx is produced by the French company "Tales-Broadcast End Multimedia",
presenting a top-product in this sphere. The German and French govts
donated funds for procuring of the tx, while the public company
"Macedonian Broadcast" provided financially support for its assembly. The
project is worth about 2.5m Euros.
(MIA nx agency, via BBCM via DXLD, Jun 10, 2002)

I checked the 810 channel two weeks ago, while on holiday in Central
Italy, but couldn't observe any spectacular signal strength. But today Jun
11 at 2200 UT a very powerful signal from Orchie Polje noted so far, here
in Southern Germany.
(wb Jun 11, 2002)

MACEDONIA I've been trying to hear Macedonia on MW for several years and
finally successed yesterday evening - thanks no doubt to this new 1200 kW
tx, which the report failed to mention, is operating on 810 kHz.

Radio Skopje was clearly audible here at 1930 UT tune-in on 810 kHz, with
nx in Macedonian. It was in the clear for several mins before being lost
under the co-channel Spanish stn and BBC Radio Scotland, both of which
were just starting to fade in.

Looking at the sunset/sunrise charts for June, the best window for
reception of Macedonia in southern England at the moment is likely to be
early evening from approx 1800 until around 1930 UT when the Spanish co-
channel interference starts to increase. North of the Midlands, reception
is not going to be so easy unless you can null out R Scotland!

RNE sendet
bereits jetzt vom heimatlichen Kurzwellenzentrum Noblejas (Toledo) vier

Ausstrahlung.

Offizielle Einweihung war am 18. April 1991. Nach Angaben von
Stationsleiter Edgar Esquivel sendet man derzeit in drei Sendestrecken 12

INDONESIA 4750 RRI Makassar, 0955-1020 UT. Noted music until 0958 UT
when a male and female comment in Indonesian language. At 1000 UT the
Qu'ran is presented by a male. This continues until 1005 UT. At 1006 UT a
female begins to comment. Her comments sound political from the tone. The
signal remains fair until about 1014 UT when it really peaks to a good
level. At that time music is being broadcast.

9680 RRI Jakarta, at 1007-1020 UT, Noted steady music from tune in. Some
comments and canned promos between the tunes. Signal is good.

9525 Voice of Indonesia, at 1010-1020 UT, Noted a very weak signal here
this morning. Can barely a male in comments, and not sure what language
his is using either. Signal was threshold.

4749.93 RRI Makassar, 1000-1015, Signal has faded in completely yet, but
noted a person in Qu'ran type reciting. At 1004 UT a male comments in
Indonesian language. Again at 1008 more Qu'ran reciting Finally, at 1012 a
female opens the broadcast with comments and music. In the meantime, the
signal is fading in from a poor to a fair.
(Chuck Bolland-FL-USA, hcdx July 30)

4749.95 RRI Makassar, July 29, 0950 - weak signal at tune in, but rapidly
strengthening to fair levels as 1006 UTC sunrise in Makassar and 1107
sunrise in Memphis. Female announcer until 1000 UTC ID, then recitations
from the Qu'ran lasting until 1012. Female announcer back playing songs,
male with long monologue from 1030. ID by female at 1100 then news.

After poor African and LA conditions noted this morning, this was a nice
surprise. Other possible 60 m.b. Indo signals observed: very presumed RRI
Wamena carrier on 4869.93 and tentative RRI Jambi on 4925 with occasional
threshold audio, hampered by CODAR and much stronger R. Educacao Rural
4925.25 with prompt *1000 UTC sign on.

Thanks for your observations! Nice to see a log of Makassar with the exact
frequency I have been hearing them on. At my QTH they normally strengthen

often even at Asilomar Beach.

cochannel PNG off today. (Also worth noting that East Sepik 3335 also off

3976.056 RRI Pontianak, 1310, pop vocals, discussion between a man and a
woman, strong and clear with weak bubble jammer underneath. 30 July.

3987.036 RRI Manokwari, 1300, noted in passing with RRI ID and into news.
This part of the band is pretty "sloppy" with white noise and bubble
jammers but this was still readable in LSB. 30 July.

3995.037 RRI Kendari, 1312, indescript talk by Indo man, sounded like he
was reading off frequency lists with several FM's mentioned. Very good. 30

KENYA The Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) is to stop using short
and medium wave frequencies so as to save on costs, writes Dennis Itumbi
for journalism.co.za. Information Permanent Secretary Dr Bitange Ndemo
said the frequencies were consuming too much power and were already
overtaken by technological advances.

The national broadcaster has also committed to reduce its power bills by
at least Shs. 25 million ($330,000) as a way of dealing with its debts.
After a meeting with the Parliamentary committee on Energy, Communication
and Information, he said a review of spending at the KBC would be
conducted so as to make it more competitive.

the tranmission stop. But there is no mention about this in their Korean

National Association of Shortwave Broadcasters <www.shortwave.org> die

weltweiten Kurzwellensendungen miteinander abgeglichen.

In

SUDAN/UGANDA 4740/4750 During a routine maintenance and resupply trip
this week, the Radio Peace technical team plans to fine tune both of the
transmitters which carry Christian broadcasts to tens of thousands of
people in South Sudan, southern Darfur, the Nuba Mountains and North
Sudan.

In the process, engineer Livingstone Kiniaru will change the frequency of
the 4750 kHz shortwave transmitter to 4740 kHz to avoid an interference
problem that has been created by another broadcaster in the neighboring
country of Uganda. This rather simple adjustment will allow the Radio
Peace programs to be heard clearly in five languages once again across its
coverage area in South Sudan and southern Darfur.

Pray that this technical procedure will be successful and that both
Livingstone and mechanic Sam Sele will have safe travel to and from Radio
Peace this week. Also, pray for our transmitter operators and security
crew who live at the broadcast facility in South Sudan.

Auslandsdienstes.

Bei einem Aufenthalt bei Radio Damaskus hatte Kris Janssen Gelegenheit zu
einem Interview mit Asad Zarai, dem Chefingenieur der Kurzwellenstation
des syrischen Auslandsdienstes in Adra.

Frage: Radio Damaskus benutzt heute verschiedene Plattformen zur
Verbreitung seiner Programme: Kurzwelle, Mittelwelle (fuer Hebraeisch und
Russisch), Satellite (Hotbird, Arabsat, Nilesat) und seit kurzem Internet
<www.syriaonline.sy/radio.php>

Frage: Wie viele Kurzwellensender stehen denn eigentlich in Adra? Asad

Frage: Mit welcher Leistung?

UKRAINE/Former USSR History. Remember "Soviet Woodpecker"

sowjetischen Jammer in der Ukraine:

(Thorsten Hein-D, A-DX July 27)

Bewusster Jammer = nein.

Empfangsanlagen.
