Hi all,

It's pretty much the same here only there is considerable doubt the
switch to digital has anyting to do with the steady increase in
advertizing and decline of quality programming. That I believe is because
there is no major increase in the number of competing broadcasters, the
only new kids on the block are a few LPTV ethnic "community" stations.
Anybody for Indo-Pak Pizza? (No smile, this is seriously yuck.) We have
far more cable channels now but that's a separate entity, still it's
going in the same direction, down. The song by Dire Straits is a bit
dated, let's just say now it's 157 stations and nothing on.

Ih Ian stop it! (;->) You reminded me of when PBS was the only worthwhile
network mainly because of it's sharp split between children's and adult
education with a whole lot of "high brow" evening programming and a heavy
dose of BBC. How can I forget I Clavdius on one hand and Benny Hill on
the other? The list goes boringly on so I'll spare you. These days it's
mostly Pete and Repete (the worst show ever) but thank the BBC gods for
Doctor Who even if he's a couple of years old.

These days I watch so little TV, maybe half a dozen hours per week here
and there and much of it is background to the computer. News? Nah, Radio
Moscow was more entertaining and now it seems they've taken ABC over and
FYI there's more commercials than news. Yeah, I can get it all in the
first 10 minutes, the rest of the hour is fluff, filler and
commercials... PHOOEY! Hey, what happened to that cute Middle Eastern
talking head on BBC America? She was the highlight of the day (forget the
news, I couldn't care less) so now the TV mostly gathers dust in the
corner, "news" = propaganda and it's all the same... 57 Channels And
Nothing On.
