Dear OQRPC-friends,

delayed by DL1RNN and DJ7ST "cascading" their holiday vacations here now the

        Voices from the 20th Original-QRP-Contest (1st/2nd July 2006)
        -------------------------------------------------------------

First time I took part in this contest and it was really fun... I'm no
active contester but in this contest the atmosphere was very friendly (OH5JJL)

Again a pleasure, this time conds were decidedly better, too.
Regrettably heavy QRM on 20m, meaning I had to revert to the stone age method
of switching antennas.. (DL1AVH)

All QSOs were on 40m. Didn't have much time, will be better in the winter
(OE6WTD)

Here my log, so the other OM will get their 4 points... tested the new 20m
band module (DL7ARV)

Only 6 QSOs, but I was there, hi (DL9GTI)

This year I was already part of a VHF contest team. But this didn't keep me
from installing my new BCR next to the VHF rig and to use the 17m tower sup-
porting the vhf aerials as HF vertical. Thus I logged YV5 among others (DF2GN).

I like this contest, it feels like the old days. Have been ham for 54 years
and have no appetite for high-speed computer assisted contesting... (OH3NQW)

For more than 20 years I participate in the QRP contest. 3 years after
moving to Luxembourg as LX/ON6WJ this year stayed in Belgium and used my
second call OP5R (ON6WJ/OP5R)

My ambitious attempt at logging the contest with LM failed abysmally, had
to revert to my paper log (DL1OD)

It was nice to take part in the OQRPC, my first experience in an
international contest...hope to take part regularly (RX3AEW)

Almost no stations heard on 80m, therefore this time only 40/20m (DL1AZK)

...no way to reach my packet radio mailbox...if it is possible to use the
internet... (DL4RU)

More wasn't possible, hangover caused by the circumstance that my
retirement from work had just begun... (DJ7RS)

Thanks for the contest and hope to work it again with more time (F5VBT)

...never before had I so much success with my QRPp TRX (IN3ZWF)

Here my log, a little on the short side. But being part of it... (DL5SE)

Otherwise our ELBC-team was complete again...appreciated the compliments
regarding my VLP signal. Being located at the fringe of DL near the coast
obviously was beneficial on 40m this time (DJ3KK)

Maybe some day I can "really" take part (DL6OZ)

No more than 6 QSO. It was unbearably hot with high humidity at my place
(PA1W)

A pity I can't use packet radio any more. Only 1 QSO due to visitors (F5ZV)

Thank you very much for having this contest (W7DRA)

Was away on Saturday unfortunately, but luckily I was able to take part on
Sunday! (OH7QR)

My wish to be QRV with my new TRX "Feldmaus" under field day conditions
from PA0 came true. Thankfully my XYL supplied me with cool drinks in
tropical weather conditions (PA/DL2XL)

Very bad propagation at the first day and very limited time at the second
(IK3TZB)

Was participating in a VHF/UHF contest and came back to my qth only some
minutes before the end of the OQRP-Contest (F6FTB)

...operated from my sunny garden...the little Moskita worked flawlessly
after I gave her a DDS-VFO. Prior to that operating outdoors in sun and wind
was unthinkable (DL6DSA)

We used the OQRP day to test out equipment and kite for field day operation.
We had fun operating and flying the kite - a Marconi kite over the Lizard
Marconi Wireless station and museum (Poldhu only 10km away) (G3PLE)

Thank you for the nice contest... (RA3BZ)

Very poor conditions, a "difficult" contest, hope next year will be better
(I2AZ)

...participation was down on last winter, probably many OM preferred to
watch soccer initially. Very crowded on 40m next to a RTTY contest, whose
participants again tresspassed downwards (DL7UMK)

Prime weather for outdoor activities, conds rather mediocre in contrast.
This contest of the somewhat other kind always fascinates me (DJ6UB)

...not enough time for a full effort (DL7BW)

Thank you very much for the nice pastime (DL4LBB)

Many hams worked on 14060. But very strong QRN at my QTH caused big
problems.. and my children made QRM all the time... (UA9LAK/UN7)

I had a great time in the contest - just operating with my new K2 for a
few small periods (GM4SLV)

Thank your for your steady efforts in our common cause (DL7UWE)

Disappointing conds on 20m, S7 noise floor on 40m and ...no proper 80m
antenna at the new QTH... (PA9RZ)

Not many QSOs but ... as long as there are the "famous 3 on a picture
postcard" (DG8VE)

It is great to work other VLP-stations knowing how it feels on the
receiving end (PA1B)

...not a lot, but conds in the shack (>31C) didn't permit more (DJ1KAI)

Even though other commitments almost made me into a "operator for a second
at a time" I had again fun (DL2NH)

The interference on 5E14Hz from the 1.496E8km distant transmitter made
taking part in the contest a question of character (DK9KR)

A good contest though severe QSB periods (OZ9QM)

80m antenna was a capacity loaded short horizontal dipole of own design
(OZ9KC)

XYL showed little sympathy for my going on the air only one day after
vacation's end...thanks (DL1AVD)

Good old rig (Efir-M) and new QTH. Thanks for opportunity...(HA8LNT)

Very hard to copy QRP stations. High noise level from thunderstorm...one
week before we had short skip condx...(there were short skip condx on 20m
on Saturday eve!, 7ST) (F8UFT)

...a pity made no QSO on 80m (DL1UNK)

Poor condx, weakest stn was F8UFT, big gun was OM7DX with 10 to 40 dB over
S9 all time (YO6EX)

Had problems with TX/RX switching so it was very difficult to make QSOs
(OZ5DX)

RM31a Czech military TRX, albeit no 40/20m range (OK1ARO)

When finally found the BT for the KX1 the contest was over...was testing
2el home made portable beam (I1BAY)

Operating from our field day QTH people often inquired as to our home made
matchbox, otherwise we'd have had more time to make QSOs... (DK5RY)

   ...went well again (20m) (DK8SX)

Here in London condx were reasonable except for sunday morning...was glad
to work 2 world cup special event stations DQ/DR2006H (G0KRT)

Summertime isn't always time for QRP. Again and again I wonder why QRP
stations crowd a few centres of activity leaving voids to all sides? The
contest was good fun again (DA0CW/DF6MS)

On 40 & 20m good signals at times...80m appeared tedious with a low number
of stations (DL1ARH)

The contest was very interesting again using 1w VLP... (DJ3GE)

A Sony gencov RX was...distinctly better than my converter/rx combo, which
couldn't cope with 1w of RF - it threatened to jump off the table... (DL7VPE)

...have heard a few new calls in this contest(SP3BOL)

There was higher activity on other occasions (in a summer contest? 7ST),
maybe because of the 2006 soccer world championships (HB9DAX)

Lots of other commitments, had to make clandestine QSO... (DJ2GL)

Not much more than "3 QSO on a picture postcard" (ON5AO)

The weekend weather was as good as the contest. I had lots of fun at the
new QTH... (DJ3LR)

Norcal 40A...paddle, Windom 14m up, cool shandy (DL4HG)

Will probably never again experience a summer QRP contest w/o QRN!
Because of the sunspot minimum I chose the QRP category... (DL1HTX)

Regrettably only a few hours available. Was nice just the same, mni tks
(DL1GKE)

The SSB/CW QRP-TX is of my own design. RIT through varying VFO collector
voltage (DL8UAW)

After a longer absence again a small contribution. The OQRP is and remains
one of the most pleasing contests (DJ5AA)

-....-

   The latter I heartily second!

(And would like to thank Eddi, DK3UZ, for another superb translation!)

73/2 "Hal", Hartmut, DJ7ST
