Hi All,

I realize this is a general interest question directed
primarily at US and Canadian stations, but here
goes:

I'm looking for some suggestions for software that lets
you use one computer for field day logging to hold
a master data base of contacts and identify "dupes"
to all computers used for logging. We had two stations
in operation and had difficulty with dupes on one
station not showing up at the other station.

Tnx for your consideration

Thank s to the many who responded to what I thought was a basic question.
I couldn't believe the response. I was able to find pcmcia sound cards on
e-bay (thanks to a listing) unfortunately I lost the bid but after
evaluating all the listings I decided maybe the old 486 notebook would not
meet all my needs, especially down the line. with used pentium note going
for $250, It didn't make sense to spend 50 on a sound card. Again many
thanks

FD is intended for training and real world experience. Well, I guess that
is how it worked for me. This was my first encounter with PSK31 using a
laptop computer. After spending an hour setting-up, adjusting and then the
hard part, finding those KEYS, I made one contact on 20M. Sorry about all
those Windows sounds on the air. Forget this, back to phone.

What I learned!
1. I will take along a standard key board next time.
2. I will take along a dummy load for set-up and testing next time.
3. Audio coupled PSK31 is a real phenomenon. The laptop, with it's
built-in microphone copied 100% from the speaker. This little microphone
also works in reverse, amazing the conversations I heard from other FD
sites. I guess I need to add a PTT cable to the list.

Next year will be better.

$14.95. Their stock numbers are; 83-7737 and 83-8353.

I haven't any first hand knowledge about these cards, I just saw them in
their catalog.

I have no connection with MCM Electronic except as a past customer.

We had a pretty interesting FD. Setup was an HP computer running on an
inverter, which was powered by two military tank batteries. Used
RigBlaster. Kenwood TS140S through a tuner into a G5RV inverted V. We had
to use a small generator a couple times to top off the batteries, although
there were spares on standby in case the batteries would have failed. For
whatever reason, we could not get any signals to amount to anything on 10,
15 or 40 meters, so found what seemed to be the entire world of data
transmission on 20. The noise level stayed from S9 to +20 most of the
time. We still got around 35 contacts, even worked Telaviv Isreal.
Considering the conditions and lack of PSK31 background we had, it was a
quite satisfactory first time experience. Now to do some work on my
computer and get into this on a regular basis.

Subject: [psk31] FD Review

Since someone asked, ;-), I think our FD experience was
quite good and I think everyone has learned something
from it..

Those that stopped by my position at our FD site was
fasinated by the whole thing.. They couldn't quite
understand how I was getting by without keyboard typing
as much as I was..

I was using the one program that I had become most
familar, Digipan and had mostly pre-programmed the
Macros to what I thought would be required in FD, not
having participated but once in my 33 years of being a
ham, :-( The nice thing was that I could change them or
add more on the fly!! It appeared most of the others
were also using the macros..

Also on the program to my astonishment, DUPE checking
was extremely easy. I used the hot-keys to a great
extent, and as soon as I double clicked on the call
sign, the info popped up on the screen indicating
wether or not there had or had not been a contact with
that station!

I made about 75 contacts on 20 meters..

Now the good part... MOST ALL stations observed by me
across twenty meters was doing extremely well in
controling thier audio levels and made operating easy..
I myself was advised once that I was overdoing it even
tho my alc was not moving, and when I went from 30
watts to 25 or less, he reported the word, "Perfect",
hi hi.. That's what it's all about, having fun and I
did!

Way to go guys and I think there will undoudtedly be
more PSKers next year!

FD in my area was great. We had a lot participants and lot of passer-bys.
checking all the stations. I worked everything there, but was most
impressed with the psk31. As soon as I got home on Sunday, I loaded digipan
on my computer and subscribed to this group. I hope to have mine going
within the next couple of days.

I get no sound in the speakers when transmitting yet it is ready for use

I did have one negative, they shipped a second one that I did not order.
They promised to straighten that out.

For the time being we are caught up on producion and in fact production is
ahead of demand. God willing and the creeks don't rise we will try to ship
the same day orders are received.

We have straightened out the problem with our database that caused some
customers to receive duplicate orders. Thank goodness for honest hams!

W1NLK the Greater Norwalk Amatuer Radio Club logged 61 PSK31 contacts, an
increase of 600% over last year!

I noticed 2 problems.

1-We had a large number of incomplete contacts. I attribute this to the large
number of relative novices to PSK31 who may have been unfamiliar with their
software or the mode. I also noticed a painfully large number of stations
apparently not using macros to preprogram their exchange.

2- Everyone seemed to stick to 20m like glue. I had 1 contact on 10 and
didn't hear anyone at all on 15 or 40. This caused incredible congestion in
and around 14.070.

All in all I was quite pleased with the general increase of operations using
the mode.
