Subject: [psk31] Yaesu FT1000
Hello fellow Warblers:
I put my rig on the air last week and it works wonderfully. Now I tried
to hook up a rig at work, a FT1000 and it seems the packet rear panel 5 pin
socket works good on Recv but transmit I need to select Packet on the front
panel which allows only LSB or FM to be selected. Has any one else had this
problem and how did you solve it? I bet here is a simple answer but I can't
seem to come up with it.
I enjoy all the articles. The one comment about not being offended at
comment from other operators is right on the mark. I welcome ANY comments on
signal etc. Only with input from other hams can we be aware of many problems.

I use a FT-990 which has the same problem. Except it doesn't seem to be
a problem. I receive and transmit just fine. I don't think that psk
can be "upside down" like rtty, or it doesn't seem so. The only
disadvantage I see is that I have to set the dial to 14073 so that I see
signals from 2k (AF) to 3k as 14071 to 14070. Takes a bit of getting
used to, but then I don't care much exactly what frequency I'm on yet.
In reality, I set my dial to about 14072.5.

Hi Bob:
Thanks for ur info/input.
I have received so many replies directly to my INBOX and all have brought me to
the following conclusion(s):
If truly PnP, WIN95 should find the appropriate device driver on the WIN95
CDrom for the CT2940.
The www.creativelabs site should (and it has) lead me to the required device
driver. I did find a cross ref table that I.D.ed the CT2940 as a IDE PnP card
Right now, this shack is a real mess, but when I get the chance I shall install
the CT2940 SB16 card and see what happens.
Thanks again, Bob, and all the others that have offered good advice.

I need to find out the wiring for the Yaesu FT-920. I've got the RX but now
TX. I would like to use the mic con. Using the data plug already but could
change back and forth if I had wiring for that to.
Thanks and 73

Vince -
Also note that the device does not have to be PNP in order to make use of
the Windows supplied drivers.

Is it possible for Windows sounds to go out over top of the PSK signal
while the PSK program is in the Tx mode? If not then using PTT should
solve the problem.

One of the reasons that the PSK software copies signals that you can't
hear via the speaker or headset is that you are listening to approx. 3
Khz worth of noise along with the narrow, weak PSK signal. The
software is "listening" through a much narrower passband and "sees"
much less noise. It's the same effect (although more pronounced) as
when switching a narrow filter on a weak CW signal and the signal
appears to suddenly jump out at you. Same signal, less noise.

Frequency stability will be a major problem. You need either a crystal
controlled or a synthesized rig to have a chance of getting the
stability required for comfortable PSK31 operation.
