Thanks for all the suggestions. Turns out I had my file extensions
hidden and what I though was brag.txt was really brag.txt.txt.

Cockpit error once again.

Thanks,
Jim.

Don't you just love Windows! Don't confuse the user by showing him the
details.

After building a RTS interface to key the rig ( FT-900).
I connected same to the FT900's PTT jack and to the computer's serial
port.
I then connected the sound card's input & output to the rig's data port.
turned on the Ft-900 and found some PSK31 signals .
I then turned on the computer, and as the computer booted up.
I noticed the FT-900 start transmitting
Seems as tho the computer 's self diganostics looked at the serial I/O,
and in the process keyed the transmitter.
Luckly, I was on the right antenna .
Guess from now on... I will boot up the computer before I turn on the rig..

I normally don't hear anything when working PSK; my headphone jack is
connected to the laptop input, so all I see is the s-meter going. But my
buddy Jim, KG9DN, runs a speaker as well, and has reported strange monkey
sounds on the band! I run my TS570 with VOX and I do have the Windows
Jungle sound scheme setup too! I have to be careful to make sure the VOX is
off when I boot up or the PC trips the VOX with jungle-sounds! I'm sure I
have inadvertently sent the growling-lion sound that is the exclamation
sound when I have clicked on the wrong thing! Anyway, lesson is to turn off
the sound scheme in Windows if running with VOX!

Hi All and thanks for reading this.

I have a friend that has a Toshiba laptop and she is interested in
getting on PSK31. What hardware does she need? Do laptops have sound
cards or sound ports? I know about PCs but, obviously, don't know a lot
about laptops.
