Subject: [psk31] G3PLXs comments on MT63

Peter has a very interesting take on equality of pain in amateur radio,
and it is easy to sympathize with his position. In many ways
interference (QRM) is the governing force in our hobby, and as such, his
point is, we should all accept equal degradation from our crowded bands.

I submit that there is another way to look at it: As QRM is the source
of our pain, QRM is also a force driving the advancement of the art. We
need to welcome new modes, new technologies, even when we feel, as Peter
does, that they are non-optimal. Lets say that MT63 is embraced by
masses of digital and voice operators and the bands become crowded with
MT63 signals. If MT63 cannot withstand interference from its own kind,
then the marketplace of reality will reduce its use. More importantly,
the geniuses among us will be motivated to fimd improvements to the mode
or new modes that don't suffer the same shortcomings. Modes which only
poorly withstand interference should be replaced by modes which are more
robust. I hope this path will lead us to better voice and keyboard QSOs.

So I say lets hear it for MT63 whether or not its the best thing since
sliced bread! Experimentation and creativity are the future of amateur
radio.

Subject: [psk31] Keying FT-1000MP

Ok..I'm stumped!!!
I'm trying to use the FT-1000mp for psk.
Using DIGIPAN 1.0c
I can rx fine.
I have referred to the Help files in DIGIPAN and have made the cable
from Line out on sound card to the Mic connector on the MP along with
the two resistor attenuator.
When I click on the TX button the rig does not key up. The "waterfall"
screen on DIGIPAN goes blank like I sould the Tx but nothing on the rig
happens. I have try this with VOX off and on but no change. I tried it
with the MOX on and I hear the tones but no rf output. All volume and
other levels look ok.
I have unplugged the speakers from the soundcard.
Any help please!!!! I really want to get into the action!!!

It sounds like you are suggesting that we should continue to do "business as
usual" out of some sense of "fairness" to the natural process - EVEN THOUGH WE
KNOW THE OUTCOME, and we COULD DO MUCH BETTER, MUCH MORE QUICKLY by SIMPLY USING
COMMON SENSE.

I'm in favor of "fairness" too, but I would never invite pain if there is a
reasonable way to avoid it.
