Andy,

Remember back in our SWL days even after becoming Hams, we had our PK-232's and
used the signal analysis mode (SIAM) in the software that came with the units ?
Not very elaborate, but it worked, here at least, to some extent.

As I recall the PK-232's SIAM simply cycled through the modes until
you saw something that printed correctly and hit a key to stop it.
The logic to determine which was the correct mode still came from the
operator.

Hi Pauli,

Sorry, but my version of DigiPan does not use DTR when I uncheck
the "Use RTS" box. And I read the help file, too.

I am running a Sound Blaster 16 and Digipan...Any ideas out there that help
me hook it up
to my Yaesu FT 840? I have the rig hooked up via the AF out on the back of
the rig, to the Line-In of the SoundBlaster....Works great in Receive.....
Transmit is another story. I would like to hook it to my Serial port for
PTT control with the Digipan program, but I am having trouble. I might just
have to use manual control for transmit for now and figure something out for
keying the rig... Has anyone been in the same predicament? How did you
solve your problems? thanks for any input.. I just discovered PSK31 last
night and I am half-way there....thanks.. Greg KB2QQM

I had the same experience. I set up my PTT circuit when I started using
RITTY by K6STI a couple of years ago. It uses DTR (Pin 4 on a DB-9). That
same circuit has worked for PSK31SBW, IZ8BLY Hellschreiber, Logger, and
WinPSK. It doesn't work for DigiPan, regardless of whether or not the RTS
box is checked.

It would be nice if DigiPan's PTT was compatible with most of the rest of
the popular sound card-based digital programs. It would certainly make it
more attractive to the user community, since we wouldn't have to rig up a
separate DB-9 connector with a different circuit just for DigiPan. I
suspect this is what the author intended, but that the code for the RTS box
being unchecked isn't right.

My version of DigiPan is 1.0c (as shown in Help/About). Whoever said that
DTR worked for you, check your version. Is it the same, or different?

Not on my PK232, the SIAM took a guess and gave a confidence level and you
had to manual proceed from there.

One final comment. The FCC requirement for CW ID on RTTY was lifted
effective June 15, 1983. Can't get it any closer than that :-)

 Hi Walt and all,

My sincere apologies. You are right and after having made a test, I confirm
that it doesn't matter whether you check or uncheck the 'Use RTS box'. As it
seems, the current version of DigiPan (1.0c) always use RTS to trigger the
PTT. I gave for granted what the authors said in the HLP file and made no
test before writing my post. Now I know better what to do in the future. No
offence meant when referring to your reading the HLP file.

BTW Did you notice the PTTSound article by EB3NC, Salvador Esteban, in the
November 1999 issue of QST (Page 60)? It really is a nice transceiver
interface, easy and cheap to build, where there is implemented a jumper
(JP1) that allows the owner to use either DTR or RTS to key the radio. If
you encase the circuit, you may substitute this jumper with a switch that
will allow you to toggle from pin 4 to pin 7 and viceversa. In the present
case It would have been very handy.

Best 73 and repeat my wishes for a happy 2000

Subject: [psk31] Digipan seems to report low IMD values

Greetings all,

In doing some crude comparisons, it seems like Digipan is
reporting much lower (i.e., poorer quality) IMD readings than
PSK31SBW, by 10 or 15 dB or so.

Has anyone else observed this yet. I usually get good reports on
IMD and stations using Digipan are reporting -12 to -15 to me.
Also, I sometimes read similarly low values when I'm listening and
looking at a signal that looks much cleaner than that.

Has anyone else observed this yet?
