Subject: [psk31] ICOM 730 & PSK31
Does anyone on the list know of, or heard of a way to use the ICOM 730
with PSK-31? I know that it would be easier with a computer controlled
transceiver. All suggestions appreciated.

Bill, the IC-730 IS computer controlled. By tuning in 10 Hz steps, it
should work fine.

Hi Bill. I was in Fredricksburg 2 weeks ago. Used to
get there alot when I was with a paging company.
Fredricksburg was the main hub for the state for
national regional and state traffic. I use a kenwood
ts520 and it works fine. Is there something strange
about the 730 that it wouldnt work ? I am not
familiar with that radio but I would think if it works
for SSB phone it will work for PSK31. Take care !!

I just got through putting up a sorta almost endfed
sorta longwire thingy of an antenna for 160/80. I will
be listening to 3580 for a few hours. I would like to
try it out. It loads great with the tuner. I'll listen
for your cq.

Yep, Bob. I used the accessory plug (1). Go to page 19 in the manual and
hook it up like the AFSK and SSTV connections with the AFSK (output) going
to the Line-In of the sound card and the AF Input going to the Line-out of
the sound card. I used a couple of 1N914 diodes, a 2N2222A and a 1kohm
resistor to make the serial port key line to the PTT pin of the accessory
connection. It works great. You can find the schematic on SSTV pages. I'm
doing this by memory so if you need more info just let me know.
I used female RCAs and short pieces of shelded audio cable and the 8 pin DIN
accessory plug to make a cable adapter. Then I use RCA audio cables and
adapters to plug into the sound card. Oh yeah, I just remembered I used
Accessory plug (2) for the key line because I wanted it separate. The key
line is pin 3 on both accessory (1) and (2). The only difference is that
accessory (2) is a 7 pin DIN.
