Short thesis follows:

PSK31 is a narrow band digital mode for keyboard to keyboard
operation. It does what RTTY does, but it takes up less bandwidth,
31 Hz vs about 200 hz for RTTY, and it works much better using
low power. PSK31 requires a SSB transmitter to transmit - you
can receive using a CW or SSB receiver. The transmitter interfaces
to a computer, the computer sound card sends/receives the PSK31
audio signal to/from the PSK31 software. There are at least four
Windows 95/98 software programs available, one for $49.95 and
the rest free.  The principal frequency of operation is 14.070 MHz;
listen for a warbling tone. Read the excellent article by Steve Ford
on page 41 of May 99 QST for more details. Follow Steve's
directions to get on the air.

It is no more difficult to connect the K2 with the SSB option for
PSK31 than it is to connect the average rig. Basically, no
modifications are required to the K2 to get started. Limit your peak
output power to 5 watts, per Elecraft technical personnel advice.
When I get my SSB option installed and the K2 working on PSK31
I will post any helpful tips pertaining to the K2 on the Elecraft reflector.
