To edit a macro within LOGGER-psk31, point to a macro button of interest,
then right click. You should then see the existing macro text or a blank box
for entering revised/new text. You are also given option to name the macro
and to change the color of the macro name lettering.

If there is a problem I can really assure you that it's not on the
server side. It's perhaps a problem of the Internet, no my internet, not your
internet.
I have been thinking about mirroring the pages, it's already done in
Japanese. The problem is that I don't want other people getting money with my
pages and with Peter's work. I don't want pseudo-free servers that later put
too much advertising, gifs and the later. I don't want "Unofficial Sites" as
they proudly selfname themselves that aren't mantained in sync anymore...
I am still searching a way to do it, and soon you will have notices about it.
Also some services I offer aren't very easy to replicate.

In a previous message to the list I had mentioned that.......
The biggest PROBLEM found is......................
If you lock on with the "afc" the xmit frequency does not follow even though
the "net" box is checked. Therefore you really can't use the "afc" which is a
problem.
Did not notice this in version 6.08d unless I overlooked it.
Besides the Latitude/Longitude/Beam Headings/Sunrise/Sunset never working
correctly (guess this should be sent to the Logger List) the AFC bug is the
only one I can see. Elated to see all the other bugs fixed. Thanks again Bob.
Does anyone else notice the AFC problem? It is strange that
PSKsbw/Mix32/Logger all have different ideas for startup in AFC/NET. Let's
get together as it is a bit confusing.

Tnx to all who responded to my question on macros
in Logger. I guess it was a case of not RTFM.
Now I have a prob which I can't find in the felp file.
When I first start up Logger and click on the CQ
macro, it dutifully calls cq, keys the transmitter, and
when done returns to receive. The next time I try
to use a macro or transmit in any way, nothing
goes out. The TX button stays pressed and nothing
I have been able to do will release it. Meanwhile, the
receiver is working fine. It stays that way until I stop
and restart the program. I am using the PTT on the Radio
interface. The fact that it first works indicates to me
that I am not clearing something that was set the first
time I transmitted? What am I missing?

I had a similar Observed Problem when I first started to use vers 609 of
LOGGER-psk31. I think I cleared it up by deleting from each macro as needed
the $cwid$ command. That seems to have made things better.

I have been down loading files on the internet for over four years. I
have used ftp, explorer, netscape and received files attached to e-mail
and even used PINE.
I do not use AOL and have never had the MIME problem noted by John.
However, I just tried again to unzip and install Logger 609. Believe me
it is not worth it. My computer locks up again when I try to run it.
I do not need to have my computer screwed up everytime I try to install and
run a program.

Stan: It's possible you downloaded a corrupt file, either because it's
corrupt on the Web page or because a bad byte got through on the download.
However, there's another possibility. Logger appears to be a very
processor-intensive program. *Much* more so than Peter's PSK31SBW and Al's
PSKGNR together. If you are running any kind of program in the background
that uses much processor time, things can *appear* to have locked up.
In my case, I downloaded Logger 6.09 today to try it. When I was entering
my station info, I brought up Instant Track (IT), a satellite tracking
program), where I already have my latitude and longitude entered. Then I
left IT running minimized.
Big mistake--IT does a lot of heavy math constantly. It must have ground
the machine to a halt competing for processor time with Logger. I thought
the computer had crashed. But when I hit Ctl-Alt-Del to check processes
(in Win95/98), I realized what was going on and terminated IT. Even though
the "Close Program" window said that it was Logger's PSK module that was
"not responding," Logger resumed running correctly as soon as I closed IT.
This was on a Pentium 120 with 64 megs RAM. Frankly, even alone, Logger
runs a little too slowly for my taste on my machine. The FFT spectrum
display tuning indicator is very nice, but it doesn't really show the
signal moving unless I tune *very* slowly. So it may be that Logger should
not have to compete with other programs, and may not work well on slower
machines. The more a program does, the more horsepower you need to be
happy with it.
Peter and Al's programs, on the other hand, coexist quite happily with
email and word processing. I can monitor PSK and do something else with
the computer. There's something to be said for small, efficient programs
that do one thing well.

Stan's system crashes and other people's complaints about LOGGER 6.09 got
me thinking about the problems. I decided to run a couple of simple tests
on my system--a Pentium 120 with 64 megs RAM running Win 98.
I brought up Windows 98's System Monitor (Start, Programs, Accessories,
System Tools, System Monitor) and tracked CPU usage. LOGGER 6.09 uses a
whopping 100% of processor time when the PSK module is running, regardless
of whether you're using the Waterfall, Spectrum display, or both.
In contrast, PSK31SBW and PSKGNR together use about 28%.
Now, that's not the full story. A program can grab 100% of processor time
but still coexist with other programs, as long as it gives adequate time
back and can still run. LOGGER's PSK module is the problem--it either
can't or won't give much processor time back.
A useful way to see how much processor time a program "hogs" is to time a
long DIR listing in a DOS window. You bring up a DOS window, and time how
long it takes for the C-prompt to re-appear after you type DIR \WINDOWS and
hit Enter. You should do this twice for each test and time the second
listing--this assures that the directory is coming out of memory cache
rather than off the disk.
Here's the results of this test on various combinations of LOGGER's tuning
displays and PSK31SBW/PSKGNR. In all cases, no other application programs
were running in the background, just System Monitor.

From these tests, it would appear that LOGGER's PSK31 module is hogging
more processor time than it needs to. Look at the difference between Peter
G3PLX's PSK31SBW and LOGGER with Waterfall only, which is an
apples-to-apples comparison. I suspect there are some programming fixes to
be done here.
In the meantime, if people have problems with lockups, you might try the
following:
- - Do not run any other applications when using LOGGER's PSK.
- - Configure LOGGER's PSK with the Waterfall Only option.
- - Win 95/98: With no applications running, hit Ctrl Alt Del and look at
the modules in the "Close Program" screen. Explorer, Systray and Rundll32
need to be there. Anything else may be something that a program installed
to run when Windows starts. Try highlighting it and clicking on "End
Task." If your machine still runs and LOGGER runs better, the program you
removed was conflicting. Consider de-installing it.
- - Screen savers are notorious for setting up background stuff you don't
know is there. Other culprits can be task schedulers, virus checker
programs and backup utilities. Microsoft Office stuff like the Office Task
Bar and Find Fast are other candidates.
- - Win 3.x: (If LOGGER runs on WIN3.x--I don't know this) Comment out all
unnecessary DOS TSR's from AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS. Check your WIN.INI
file for stuff in the "load=" and "run=" statements. Comment them out and
replace them with a blank load= or run= statement.
- - Upgrade to a faster computer
Disclaimer: The above is intended to be helpful, general advice. It
assumes you know a bit about how Windows works. Always make a copy of any
configuration file before you alter it. Don't mess with the Registry
unless you know what you're doing. Contact a program's manufacturer for
advice on how to de-install it. I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV.

Obviously,
sending such sounds is not a good idea.
I am using vox for now. Someday I'll set up a PTT interface, but in the
meantime
I have disabled all sound on my pc with W95. Just go to ''sounds'' in the
control
panel and select ''no sounds'' as your sound scheme, then plan on building a
PTT
interface.

Hi Marty,
If you first click on AFC after tuning a signal, then click on NET,
the TX freq will jump to the RX freq and stay there without following
his signal. So what you should do is just before the other station
signs the first time, click on NET. That way, you have locked your
TX signal to his at that one time. You don't want your TX to follow
his signal all the time. If you do, you will be leapfrogging each other
all over the band. NET works the way it should, and the way I
operate when using the other programs, PSK31SBW and MixW32.
With the other programs, I have to turn NET off after zeroing him once
to keep from following him up or down the band. On Logger, I don't.
I don't consider it a bug but a feature, but for uniformity and consistency
sake it could be changed to operate the same as the other two programs.
