Hello Mike,
I'm using the DL9RDZ PSK31 software.
I compiled the sources witout special problems, with REDHAT 5.2 and
LINUX 2.0.36.

Subject: [psk31] DXpeditions on PSK
Thanks to all that replied about my query about DX activity on PSK31. Based
on the feedback I received, 40-50 DX countries appears to be the upper
limit at the moment. Since I only have about 15 countries on PSK there are
others active that I can hunt.
One person that replied pointed out that personal computers with 16 bit
sound cards might not be as widely available beyond the western Europe, S.E.
Asia, and VK/ZL land. (oh, and those two big countries south west of
Greenland). This is perhaps so, but what about the DXpeditions? Any of
them adding PSK to their repertoire ?
Andy.

Sure Mike you can run Linux on a 386 20. You can also
enter a model T in the indy 500 but don't expect a
crowd to be there when you finish the race.....

I spent (or invested) some time on 15 meter around 21080 as sugestd. Two
weeks later, feww contacts, I discovered that everybody was 10KHz bellow ...
Still using all bands from 30 to 10 meter, administrating the band use in
function of the time of the day. For me here this means:
10m: from 12:00UTC to 00:00UTC starting with Africa > Europe > US > Asia
12m: from 15:00UTC to 03:00UTC same sweep
15m: from 12:00UTC to 03:00UTC mixed sweep
17m: from 18:00UTC to 03:00UTC mixed sweep, ending with KH/ZL/VK
20m: from 20:00UTC to 07:00UTC mixed sweep, ending with KH/ZL/VK
30m: from 20:00UTC to 03:00UTC not too much experience there
I logged up to now:
4X / CN / CO / CV / DL / EA / EA8 / F / G / HA / HB / I / JA / K / KG4 / KH4
/ LA / LU / LY / LZ / OD / OE / OH / OK / OM / ON / PA / PY / S5 / SM / SP /
SV / UA1 / UA9 / UN / UR / VE / YU / ZL / ZS
And remember that there will be HB0 from June 18 to 22 on PSK31 and
FeldHell.
If possible, keep me (us?) informed abt your logs so we know what look for
:o), direct or using the reflector. I think it's a general interest subject
(DX AND PSK31) and not only a DX issue so the reflector is the best option.
O FeldHell list there's a fellow that in a weekly basis posts logs + screen
snapshots.

I see that most of the PSK transmissions can be found on 20 met. around 14.070,
where one will find packet transmissions Amtor and Pactor, which causes
interference
and we also cause interference with PSK to their transmissions. Why not move up
to lets say 14.072 and higher.

This is a multi-part message in MIME format.
Hello Luc,
To use the narrow filters ( like 500 and 250 hz ) in the SSB mode, you =
have to "fool" the startup-menu of the Ic-706-mk2.
I have put in an 500 and 250 hz filter, and on SSB I can choose the =
normal (wide) SSB filter no other indication, with indication W the 500 =
hz filter and with indication N the 250 hz filter.
Just push the Lock and Power together when the set is off, and there the =
setupmenu comes.
Choose for menu item 19: OPT fil 1: FL-103 ( I think this is my 500 hz =
filter)
and for menu 20: OPT fil 2: FL-223. ( the 250 hz filter).
When the indication W and N, are wrong (in SSB !), change then the menu =
item 19 and 20.
In LSB you have with Shift Control at about 1 o'clock 800 hz and on 2 =
o'clock the 1000 hz passband for RX.
For PSK31 and Coherent bpsk the 1 'clock is suited with the N (250 hz =
filter). The 2 o'clock is suited for doing Feldhell with the fb program =
of IZ8BLY Nino.
In USB this is at 1 o'clock abt 2200 hz, which I use with the W (500 hz) =
filter for Pactor-2.
For transmission the normal wide ssb filter is always used.
It just could be that the indications on the screen in CW/RTTY are not =
correct anymore, when using the N and W filters.
=20
Hope you can use the Psk31 mode an bit easier now, with other strong =
signals present.

I believe the gentlemen's agreement on 20 was for:
14.070 - 14.080 = 'tor
14.080 - 14.090 = RTTY (Baudot)
14.090 - 14.100 = packet
At least this was so a while ago. No matter where PSK is, there will be
interference. I agree that it is pretty bad where we usually hang out.
Probably, to those who don't know what PSK sounds like, we sound like
someone just throwing a carrier on the frequency (tuning up or whatever)
so they don't feel like they are interfering with a QSO.

Subject: [psk31] SunClock Program with PSK
Howdy...
A week or so ago, someone pointed us to a web site that had a very nice
grayling sun clock, screen saver.. which works great with Psk and
figuring when and where the dx should be...
I pulled it from the site (which I can not remember its location)
installed it.. and love it! However.. often, by morning, after running
all evening, it is eating up the system resources to the point of total
lockup.
Thinking it was something unique on my computer, I installed it on a
friend of mines computer... with same results.
Has anyone had similar troubles? If so, how did you solve it? Or was I
the only one that downloaded this program?
It is a very nice addition when chasing Dx... using psk or whatever mode
ya are interested in.
Thanks in advance for the help, and apologies for being slightly off
topic.. but since the url originated here.. I figured there would be
some other users..

A sort of sub audio FSK was used on at least one 2 meter repeater in the
New York City/ Northern NJ area in the 1960s. It was 45 Bd Baudot, very
low shift FSK about 10 Hz as I remember, and developed by Bill King W2LTJ.
It relied quite heavily on a device Bill called AZCD. The Auto Zero
Centering Device (an op amp circuit) automatically centered the "slicer"
input even for very small shifts, or total loss of one polarity. It also
helped hardware HF TU's a lot. It was written up, maybe in Ham Radio Mag.)
Voice users on the repeater never even knew that the RTTY QSOs were there.
There might still be some fun to be had with more modern sub-audio QSOs.

I remember reading about this. If I remember correctly, didn't the
system
actually shift the repeater's carrier frequency? I wonder if anyone
still uses the technique.
