debate except to say....

1. Perhaps if we are not mobile then maybe the Internet is
better for most benefits. Now, that's not to say you shouldn't
do base station packet. In fact, if you can show otherwise,
please do.

2. The thing about slow 1200 baud is it's cheap. I'm all for
high speed experimentation but still 1200 is inexpensive. In
fact I use my computer and HT that I already own.

3. The most interesting experimentation I see in high bandwidth
wireless communication is up on a band where only point to point
nodes are best suited for base and not mobile operations.

4. APRS while only mildly interesting to me for mapping, is
setup on 1200 baud, has messaging, uses a band(s) suited for
around town RF, and works mobile. Plus, it's popular.

So what's the best way to do mobile communications? I shutter to
think expensive commercial alternatives are the best way to go.
I believe this is what Ham (or other) experimentation is all
about. I'd like to hear from someone regularly operating mobile
and with real world type benifits.

To each his own. Your milage may vary. IMHO. I'm still learning
and so are you. My situation can not be exactly as yours. Go
forth and multply. Yada, yada, yada. :)

Subject: Packet on CB?

Sorry, but this is not true. It is legal in the Netherlands since April 8th,
2000, but only with unmodified CEPT CB Rigs (that means: 4 WATT PEP, FM
modulated, 40 channels, straight-out-the-box without modifications, you can
add a SSTV-system to your CB set legally).

Greetings from the Netherlands,

Rene PD1ALD

PS: this is the reason why it is disputed that novice-radio amateurs
(PD-prefix) should be allowed to transmit SSTV-pictures as well, since it is
allowed in the licence-free CB world. In a sense, CB is allowed more modes
than PD-amateurs. However, J3E (SSB) and A1A (CW) is still not allowed for
CB users.

Subject: Soundcard packet

Hi Folks,

I'm trying to use my soundcard for packet instead of a TNC. I downloaded
the AGW packet engine and WinPack 6.4, but I have no idea how to make them
work together. Can someone please give me a brief explanantion of what I
need to do to use this software or point me to something that is more
intuitive to use?

Thanks in advance,

Rodney, KF4COV

AGW is the easiest but doesn't work well on all systems (like
mine I use Flexnet). Try it. Run Winpack and set it fro AGW.
Close it.
Run AGW, rigght click on it's tab. Set 1200 on the port and for
the speed. Set it for soundcard. Close. Run AGW and then
Winpack. Cross your fingers.

I did that & everything seems to run OK, but I don't get any sound from my
speakers when I try to connect with another station. I don't have a radio
connected right now, but I think I should be able to hear the packets thru
my speakers. I don't see any settings in AGW that look wrong, but maybe I'm
missing something.

Also try rebooting. Make sure your hear other sounds (before
running AGW). You may need to turn off sounds in Winpack when
you get to that point.

I think these files are in the BIN directory.
Ad the path to this dir. in your autoexec.bat.
