Speaking of using the KPC3 for gps work.... I have kpc3 originally had books
for
v5 but seems the actual firmware is 6 (not sure if/how it was upgraded).
Question: I have managed to get the tnc INTO GPS mode, but now how do I get it
OUT of gps mode? I do not have books for 6.0 firmware, anyone know where i can
get a pdf file or something?

I don't think KANTRONICS has copies of their manuals on their web sites. I
suspect that KANTRONICS is afraid that HAM's will make illegal copies of
their firmware (by burning their own EPROMS) and then use the manual that
they provided on their web site.
If you have a licenced version of the firmware, send KANTRONICS an EMAIL and
they may be able to help you out.
By the way, the easiest way to get the KPC-3 or the KAM out of the GPS mode
is to hook up a computer to the KPC-3 and send three CTRL-C's in a row about
one second apart. (Just like you would do to get the KPC-3 out of its
transparent packet mode). Make sure that you use the same baud rate as your
GPS receiver (normally 4800 bps).
