"John" has been reported to his ISP, get2.net in Denmark. The message he
posted from their news server violates the Terms Of Service set forth by them.

This message has also been reported to bcandid.com in Colorodo, which was the
feed here in the states.
He may be trying to spoof everyone, but the headers never lie.

There's real value in giving your manual away free. Firstly, the
customer has already paid for a copy since they bought the equuipment.
Putting it up on the web in .PDF costs very little.
Another alternative is to put it on the web for everyone and
use it as another sales tool. Kenwood have their manuals on the web.
If you're looking for a particular obscure feature, it might be in
the manual but not the brochure; that's certainly true for one Kenwood
rig I considered and subsequently bought. Really, concentrate on
the core business and don't try to milk everyone for the last cent on minor
things like manuals.
I wish ICOM and Yaesu would publish their manuals on the web.

Maybe windows isn't letting it see the serial port. You can remove the port
in device manager, but windows won't be able use it when you've stopped
playing packet. You might be able to get away with disabling it in the
profile and enable it later. PnP can also be a problem on a windows system
even with the port disabled.
The only serial port my windows knows about is the mouse port. The rest are
used for packet and are disabled in windows. The mouse port is the only PnP
serial port too.
Maybe someone has had some luck without doing the above, but for me the less
windows knows about what I'm doing the better and I'm keeping it that way
:-)
You could get an old computer to play packet on or use something written for
windows.
