Subject: INFO: Low cost " smart " laptop treminal for TNC or Multimode
controller
using one of those Texas Instruments LCQ terminals for your TNC or
Multimode Controller ...?? Wish you had something " smarter ' than
a dumb terminal ( something that runs DOS or windows software
programs ) but can't justify a laptop dedicated to the decoder ...??
Hate those " usual" big ole and heavy 286/386 laptops and their
battery hungry problems ...??
Check out this " no reserve " Toshiba T1000 laptop computer ..and
it's " small " lightweight size and battery conserving abilities. It
also runs on 12vdc .. handy for portable of field day work.

It's worth a look ....!!

Otherwise, go with Linux. I pitched "JNOS" for it, except for my 286-'s.

Subject: Kantronics 9612 for APRS????
I got a used 9612 this weekend. I would like to try it in the dual
port mode, but in a different way.
I need a radio on one port, but want to know if anyone has used
the other radio port to feed in a GPS input. I had thought about
a special dual com port cable, or getting a Pico Packet instead.
Then I saw this unit at an estate sale and picked it up.
Has anyone tried this?
Thanks in advance!

Subject: MFJ 1270 "Node" capability
hi shane,
1270 are tnc made by mfj entreprise.
they can be use as a paket at a station or a node.
a node is a relay between stations or bbs .
as auser you need a software between the pc you are using and the radio
there you will define if you want too be a NODE(RELAY) or a USER at home
Find a SYSOP (System Operator) of a BBS may of them are using MFJ's 1270 as
a unit for there BBS he will explain what i mean
>.
to use the 1270 as a node you must use THENET as anode software BUT
you will become a user not an oparator .
you should try MULTI_COM
i am unsing 1270b as a node in THENET and they are good tnc.
