software, this works good when using a that fast tnc, with that much
memory and good node software avalialbe.
But the old tnc2s and similair are to slow for that handeling a good node
and as a result of that are no good node softwares avalialbe either.
But if you want to use one of those old tncs is the best thing to do to
use it together with another hardware, pc, rmnc node etc and to use 6pack
as communictation protocol.
Then can you use your old equipment and still get a good node.

There can the X1J4 node for mfj 1270 be found, but it is an old outdated
node, that really should not be used any more!
It is an old net/rom ode, with all the disadvantages and serious problems
of those nodes.
If you want a net/rom node take a look at nordlinks page
(http://134.169.78.141/) and their modern thenetnode, it uses a new
modified net/rom protocol, that is much better working. Its routing is
working as supposed now a days.
But preferable is to use a x-net node (http://www.swiss-
artg.ch/xnet_main/xnet_e/index.html) or flexnet
node (http://dl0td.afthd.tu-darmstadt.de/~flexnet/)
X-net nodes can be a part of a net/rom network and vice versa, but be
careful a missconfigured net/rom node (most nodes are missconfigured,
thanks to the not working quallity concept) can destroy the routing in a
other wise good working x-net network.
But on the otherhand can it never be worse than in a net/rom network,
only as bad!

Subject: Packet with a Soundcard
Sorry,
But the trash related to a CB'er posting in the Ham group made it difficult
to filter and find the original answer to the question.
Can you use a soundcard with your 2-meter (or other radio) to do packet...if
so could someone reference some resources and/or software.
Thanks

All you need to know is here:
http://www.forthnet.gr/sv2agw/tcpipgat.htm
Then if you can use winpack with it and the Bob's your uncle!

If you're using Win95/8, the SV2AGW packet engine supports packet via a
sound card, and there are a good number of applications available for
it. Have a look at http://www.forthnet.gr/sv2agw/start.htm
There are also sound card drivers available for Flexnet.

Apparently, nobody else noticed that your email address is in the Netherlands,
which has very different CB regs than here in the USA (judging from the large
number of CB packet BBSes over there, many of which have homepages on
Geocities and elsewhere on the Web).
As to your original question.... yes, it's possible to do packet with a
soundcard.
Try these links for info and software:
Flexnet: http://www.afthd.tu-darmstadt.de/~flexnet/

The following appears to attribute to me something that I did not write.
You are presumably complaining about the last two sentences, but they
were written by n5pvl@texoma.net, not by me. What sort of crap
newsreader are you using that manages to remove the author of the
