In addition to the 144.91-145.09 MHz range, try 145.51-145.79 MHz. I know
there's BBS activity south and southeast of Chicago on 145.57 and 145.65,
and DX cluster links on 145.51 MHz.

Subject: How to use Packet-Radio and Creative Soundcard

Hi all

This particular thread has got a fair bit of interest going in this
household as I was able to connect up to the local BBS and send and
receive packet. This changed as I moved with the ham gear to a different
city but with my trusty computer.

Luckily for me my computer has a sound card and to my knowledge it is a
Creative brand name.I was able to bring a HT with me to the new city but
that is all.

Is there a way to connect up the HT audio and mic and get it fed from my
soundcard?Luckily there is a mic and audio out plug on top of the HT so
I know the PTT can be triggered.

Another thing is the software to use.I used to use Winpack but I do not
think it will work with this arrangement. What other programs are there
out there that are compatible to Winpack ie start with other program and
move to Winpack without losing mail etc?

Wondering as I may be able to get back to packet after a year.
Appreciate any comments

That will be a real crapp node!
A MFJ tnc isn't good enough to use as node, it can't be any thing else
than a outdated netrom node like those used in the old days.
If you want to run a node, get your self a real modern good working node,
not some cromagnon node!

This makes them useable for node work but I don't think the original
question was about that, it was about using a mfj tnc as stand alone tnc
node.
A tnc3 or tnc4 can act as a standalone node with thnetnode or xnet
