What about encrypted e-mail? Wouldn't that X the problem of losing ones
license for lack of editing out naughty words?

Sure. Just don't operate within the Ham Radio band segments. The various CB
radio freqs, for example, lack effective regulation of any kind. Also,
special freqs are set aside for commercial use, if you are looking for
something related to your work.
Many of the "digital communications hobbyists" who feel so put out by the
restrictions Amateur Radio operators must face are unhappy simply because
they are attempting to use the wrong radio service, and would find
themselves to be much happier with what they can do on the various CB
frequencies.

Subject: High speed packet radio @ 13cm
Hello,
I'm investigating the equipment required for 56k packet radio @
13cm(2000-2400mhz).
I would like to know the sort of transciever, transverter, TNC and packet
modem that i would require to complete this task. It needs to have
reasonable power input/output levels.
